In four career outdoor postseason games, Sanders averaged a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. He never scored a touchdown. And he never ran for more than 65 yards in a single game. With Sanders, the Lions went 0-4 in outdoor playoff games, losing by an average of 17 points. Once Sanders got to the big stage, and got out of the Silverdome, he was a bust.
Take the wild-card playoff game at Lambeau Field in 1994. That season, Sanders averaged 5.7 yards per carry -- the second-highest total of his career. In the first round of the playoffs against the Green Bay Packers, on Lambeau Field's frozen tundra, Sanders set an NFL postseason record for rushing futility. He had 13 carries for minus-one yard. He had four catches that day -- for four yards. Which means he had 16 touches for a total of three yards. you can say what you like about the lions offensive line, but its hard to block for some one when you dont know where they are running. and as i recall lomas brown was a pretty good lineman. the lions were bad because sanders just had way to many carries for minus yds.

doesnt that also mean the brown ran behind a smaller offensive line? jerome bettis out weighed alot of defensive linemen he played against why didnt he the same success brown had. jim brown was hands down the best ball carrier that ever breathed. and that cant be disputed. your problem is , if you didnt see them play then they must not be any good. even barry sanders own father said jim brown was greatest. what i would to see is these some of the players today play in the same conditions and same equipment that brown did. as paul hornung said jim brown could have probably gained 1000 yds in the nfl at age 50.

The debate over the best isn't between Emmit and Barry, its between Barry, Walter, and Brown.

To be honest Barry and Brown were the two best ever, the only 2 RBs in the history of the game to average over 5 ypc for their career. Most RBs can't do that for 1 season, let alone a career.

^ My thoughts pretty much. The debate is really only between Barry, Brown, and Sweetness. Smith produced more than those guys, but that's because of the years played. It's hard to say Sweetness is 3rd, but I have to.

its not even a debate between , brown , sanders, and payton. brown was far better than them. brown was the total package. a blend size , sprinters speed, instincts, balance , duability, and flat out physical. the man led the league in rushing 8 times in 9 seasons. thats unprecidented. maybe the most amazing stat is that in 9 seasons he never missed a game. imo i wouldnt even rate payton and sanders in my top 3. it would like brown , earl campbell and eric "the head case" dickerson. dickerson was amazing but all the baggage he carried kinda takes him out of mix with alot of people when it come to conversations about great runners.

hey i'm not knocking you. i was just stating my opinion. i seen them all play. they are all great backs. that cant be debated. but when i look back i noticed some things were missing. payton lacked the extra gear to runaway from d-backs. plus i think he only led the leacue in rushing one time in his career. sanders he too lacked that extra gear. i seen sanders ran down many times. brown and campbell where as fast as they were physical. i dont know if there was ever 2 more punishing rbs

that is because you havent seen any one play whos career ended before 2001. you want a athlete that is overrated? adrian peterson, he cant go a game without fumbling the ball away. he treats the ball like its a live grenade ready to explode in his belly. and to say that brown is overrated, well that just shows your knowledge or lack there of .
