Anybody else watch this show on the Travel Channel? Adam Richman (that guy is absolutely hilarious) travels around the country to sample unique restaurants and local food challenges...you know, those kind of things like "15lb. hamburgers" or the "world's hottest chicken wings". (I know he had an episode in Columbus, although I don't recall exactly where he visited...maybe Schmidt's?)

Well a couple friends and I wanted to organize a Man vs. Food road trip around Ohio, to try to find some of these types of restaurants locally, so I was hoping for any stories or experiences with similar unique food challenges, huge sandwiches, and legendary local specialties...the kind of thing where you eat this or that and you get your picture on the wall...you get the idea.

Any recommendations??

Doug's Classic 57 in Alliance has what's called the King Kong Challenge. I think it's exactly the type of thing you're looking for.

Quaker steak is in Austin town or in Sharon Pa. He did the atomic wing challenge there. I don't really know any in Ohio but a local favorite that would fit more with Diners, Drivins, and Dives would be the Hot Dog Shop in Warren, Ohio. Best Chili dogs ever!

Primanti's would MAYBE be good if they didn't have the worst french fries in the history of mankind. Since they toss them on the sandwich it's just not for me....I imagine it's great drunk food though...I'm surprised I don't know since there is one 4 blocks from my house.

17 minutes and 19 minutes for me (the latter I was nursing it and talking with friends, the former I had a respiratory infection and felt like crap).

The thing is, it's actually an extremely good sandwich. Take my advice and forgo the red onions though...four little slices will overpower a 3.5 pound sandwich.

Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives stopped in McConnelsville, Ohio at a place called "The Boondocks".

The owner of "The Boondocks" knows someone associated with the show supposedly.

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout...
anything with "king" and "kong" in the title is worth a road trip!
Thanks!

Many many nights i staggerd into primanti`s at 3, 4 in the morning, it was only open at night back then, I would be 10 ft away from the counter, they`d say what you want, CHEESESTEAK, You had to be able to catch cause here it comes then you would hand the guy in front of you the money and it always made it to the counter. Oh the college years. There also was a little greek place callad Delkids on highway 60 east of Crafton that had a late night steak and eggs that if you ate it all it was free, I always ate 2 more meals off of leftovers. It`s not there anymore Gus died and they tore it down. Went to college married a Greek, Italian girl, guess that explains the belly, it can`t be the beer.:D

Here's a description of the King Kong Challenge
Can YOU conquer the King Kong Challenge? In 30 minutes or less, you must eat: 3 of our world-famous King Kong Deluxe Burgers - each weighing over 2 POUNDS!, an order of our delicious crinkle-cut fries, a side dish, and a 32-oz. glass of Stewart's Root Beer

Is there a way to downsize the image on here?

Crabill's in Urbana has a challenge as to who can eat the most burgers. They are little sliders and I think the record is at 31.

Diners, Drive In's, and Dives visited 'Melt Bar and Grilled' in Lakewood in september. The episode will air in January sometime. Love melt. Gigantic gourmet grilled cheese and an excellent beer selection. To take a peek at the menu visit www.meltbarandgrilled.com
