I would have been happy either way, Kyle. But when I read this earlier tonight, all I could think was:
THANK YOU, GOD.
This is going to be one hell of a summer, baby.

My comments on this matter have already been made elsewhere. I'm sure rec doesn't even need to go read them...he already knows.
Duke is going to be STACKED next season, and I just can't stand it!

Look out world.
But there have been teams way more loaded that have failed to win it all.
They still gotta play the games.
But a perimeter of Irving, Smith, Singler, Curry, and Dawkins is pretty sick.

Definitely. I would think that Duke will be the clear #1 team to start next season, but as we have seen in the past, that doesn't necessarily translate to a title. This season, Duke won a title when they weren't really expected to do so. Next year, the expectations will be through the roof. Even with all that talent, it will still take the right draw, a little luck, and playing up to their potential every night. Winning a national title is never a certainty. I'm just a pessimist, and a Carolina fan, so I'm going to go ahead and expect the worst though.chicago510 wrote:

Oh I read them, iron. They made all this even better
Once again, my reverse psychology methods equal perfection. I had a feeling Kyle loved college too much to leave and that he'd want to create a Laettner-like legacy for himself in Durham (winning back-to-back), but I acted as if he were gone. I even had myself believing it.
Before I get ahead of myself, though, winning back to back titles is nearly impossible. There is a reason only two teams have done it since John Wooden was still coaching. It will be extremely difficult. However, it will be a fun ride nonetheless.

If the Plumlee brothers develop as expected look out. They are the first truly talented big men in awhile at Duke.
Had to laugh too when I saw there was a third Plumlee brother on the way too. Who knows how a family can grow 3 freak children.

Note: Next year's shallow draft obviously played a HUGE role.

Chance at back to back titles, being an first team AA and seeing #12 in the rafters at Cameron doesn't hurt either haha.reclegend22 wrote: Note: Next year's shallow draft obviously played a HUGE role.

No it certainly doesn't
Apologies to the Carolina boys if my typed words are resonating giant smiles of happiness that are making you sick
If we WERE (HUGE IF) to tie you for titles next season, I will saw my arm off. That's how dedicated I am to that goal.

Duke will be a favorite, but I don't think they will be able to win back to back.
Should be a great season though, will be a good summer watching Heel fans stew a bit over this season.

Really hard to win two in a row. Of course, worrying about winning two in a row is about the best problem a program can have. I don't expect Duke to win it all nor do I think they should be the favorite. As rec and I discussed before if Purdue gets everyone back I think they are and should be the preseason #1 team in the country.
I know everyone, even Duke and UNC fans, finds the Duke/UNC lovefest a bit nauseating but they've won four of the last nine titles and the last two. The guys coaching them are far and away the two best coaches in America. I'm guessing the lovefest is going to continue for a long time, and rightfully so.

Good move. He likely doesn't have much of a future in the NBA, although I think he may be able to find a place somewhere. Might as well go out and try to win another though. As much as I hate Duke, I like to watch him play. Lord knows that could change this year though--I'll only be able to handle the media sucking his dick for so long.

How awesome would a Duke-OSU matchup be in the ACC Challenge? It will probably be MSU-Duke but one can only hope.

Duke will be getting a game in Cameron for the challenge; I'm almost certain of that. We've played back-to-back ACC-Big Ten Challenge games in West Lafayette and Madison. And I have heard OSU is on the short list, along with Purdue and MSU. There is not much reason to believe that it won't be one of those three teams heading to Cameron. Since MSU has been there before, I'm inclined to say that Purdue, if the core guys all return, will repay Duke's visit to Mackey Arena in '08.
Although, I want an OSU game in Durham. Boy that would be satisfying.

I think you are dead wrong. Even if Purdue gets everyone back, they still don't have a decent PG, they don't have any depth, and Hummel will not be the Hummel of old. Duke has an NBA quality PG, backcourt depth, and the probable national POY.As rec and I discussed before if Purdue gets everyone back I think they are and should be the preseason #1 team in the country.
This past year, Duke needed a great draw and some good breaks to win the tournament. Next year, they will need a less than favorable draw and some bad breaks to lose the tournament.
Duke's opponent in the Big 10 challenge will get hammered. No team has a better home court advantage than Duke. It is too bad that a Turner versus Singler matchup could not have been realized. But, when a player is a lottery pick, he has an easy choice to make.

Singler's return makes Duke the clear-cut favorite. But I don't think it necessarily guarantees a ring. With Irving, Smith, Singler, Curry, and Dawkins, K is going to very tempted to play Singler big minutes at the four. And to me, the reason Duke turned the corner this season is that K finally played two true big men all of the time. Duke probably caught a break when Elliot Williams transferred as it made K play Zoubek and kept Singler at the three. Singler at the four makes Duke much more vulnerable to teams with athletic front courts. Still, Duke will be very talented and Irving's athleticism will give them a new dimension.
I guess K failed in one way since he said the goal before the season was for Singler to be in this year's draft. But I doubt Duke fans (or K) care too much about that one.

I can't tell if this is serious or one of your reverse psychology type games where you build Duke up or not, but I think Purdue will be VERY good if they get everyone back. JMO though.Prescott wrote:I think you are dead wrong. Even if Purdue gets everyone back, they still don't have a decent PG, they don't have any depth, and Hummel will not be the Hummel of old. As an Ohio State fan, I would LOVE to have seen Turner vs Singler. One, because it would have meant Turner was back, and two, because Turner vs Singler would make me

I am being serious for the reasons I mentioned. Average PG play from a miniscule PG, very little depth, and a recovering Hummel. Which reason do you disagree with?I can't tell if this is serious
I don't even think Purdue will have the best returning team in the Big 10. That label goes to Michigan State, as long as Lucas' rehab goes reasonably well. Korey Lucious proved he can be a more than capable point, but Lucas can be special.

My basis is that Purdue was really, really good this past year. Returning the same starting five for a third straight year would do wonders. Duke will be tough to unseat and they are the defending national champions, but given how unlikely it is to repeat in any sport regardless of wht a team returns tells me next year won't be a "Duke vs the field" type of season. I'm not a Purdue fan at all I just think they'll be pretty damn good IF everyone comes back. I could also agree with Michigan State being the Big Ten favorite next year.
