“We strongly believe that walking is the most enjoyable way to play golf and that the use of carts is detrimental to the game. This negative trend needs to be stopped now before it becomes accepted that riding in a cart is the way to play golf.”

Ride or Die!
I'll stop using a cart when Tiger or Phil starts carrying his own bag.

...I'd love to see this happen, then I can use the extra money from being a caddy to pay for my Obama Health Care.

No golf carts = 75% less golfers = 75% less revenue = no golf courses.
Golf courses currently can't charge enough around here to make a profit, take away the extra $15 they make on you taking a cart and they will no longer exist.

Hey I don't agree with him on this one. I love riding in a cart, completes the round faster

I love to walk normally, but when I'm with my grandpa, walking isn't an option due to his health (he's nearly 80). He is in fine health for an 80 year old, but still can't walk 9 holes without getting pretty winded.
So, my options are:
1. Don't golf with my grandpa.
2. Golf with my grandpa and ride in a cart.
I'll take option number 2 as long as he is still alive every day of the week.
You know how many old golfers like my grandpa the local courses would lose because they can't walk that long?
I mean, my g'pa will walk a few holes for excercise and ask me to drive the cart but after a few holes he's riding.

Just giving you hell. Since I cut back golfing tremendously, I take a cart.
I will say, however... sometimes, walking can make a round go faster. Especially if you are with 3 other experienced golfers. I'm not a low handicapped, but am experienced enough to play a quick round. Carts definitely slow the pace down.

Unfortunately... most people do not have a clue how to play with a cart. They go sit in the cart and watch their fellow rider hit, rather than grabbing a couple of clubs and walking over to their shot.

When you guys have your heart attacks, just remember you could have had some enjoyable exercise if you just walked while golfing.

USGA declares war on profits, since most golf courses make most of their money from people renting a cart. I won't mind, golf is a dumb "sport" anyway, I'd love to see it dissolve.

If people want to walk, I will walk, if they want to ride, I will ride. Doesn't make a bit of difference to me one way or the other. I enjoy walking if I have the time and the course isn't too jam packed. But if you have an outing or a scramble then you pretty much have to have a cart for all the army golfers.

I walked 9 on saturday. rode the other 9. It's too fucking hot (or humid) to walk down here. In Wyoming I walked 18 once a week. down here it'd kill me.

Carts seem to make things go slow b/c you get to your ball so fast, and wait. When you walk, it gives the group ahead of you time to get their next shots done.

This is what I was going to say. If courses stopped offering carts then a lot of people would stop golfing and courses would close.bases_loaded wrote: No golf carts = 75% less golfers = 75% less revenue = no golf courses.

My philosophy is walk when you can and ride when you need to. I golf by myself more than with friends simply because my schedule allows me to play more often that most of my golfing buddies. When it's the early spring or late fall and there isn't as much sunlight I will ride because it's the only way I can get 18 holes in after work before I run out of sunlight. If I'm playing with a group of friends and the consensus is to take a cart, then I'll take a cart (I'm not going to be the only guy walking, although I have been known to put my clubs on the cart and walk most of the course). If I'm playing by myself or if the people I'm playing with want to walk then I walk. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it.

Real golfers wouldn't stop golfing b/c they couldn't ride. They'd still play b/c they enjoy golfing. If you're too lazy to walk so you quit a game, that speaks volumes for your character. Only people who should be riding are people who are physically unable to walk that distance.

The only problem I have with riders...at least many of them, is the ones that do NOT adhere (or eve know) the "90 degree" rule.
If there is no cart path, that doesn't mean you are allowed to drive the card up and down the fairway at will like a moron.
You drive in the rough, and cut across the fairway at a 90 to your ball and go back on a 90 to the rough before you drive toward your next shot.
I went out a few weeks ago on Good Friday late in the afternoon after most people had already been out, and the fairways looked like they had just hosted a NASCAR event.

Walking is for golfers with less than 20 handicap rounds.
Riding is for outings/scrambles where drinking is involved.
No big deal to me either way.

My friend and I played 18 last thursday in 3 hours with a cart. I workout enough at the gym. I play golf for the exercise...

This would never happen. If a specific course wants to be a "walking course" that only allows you to ride if you have a physical ailment a la the Tiger Woods course that is opening in NC, then that is fine.
