Awesome in its own way though, particularly the music.

Mario 3 FTW though

After playing versions 2 and 3, go back to playing version 1, and you get angry that your man cannot jump over a shoe box, let alone a monster or a brick wall.

FYI: The reason it's so fucked up is because for whatever reason someone decided to remake a Japanese game and just replace the characters to fit Mario.

I thought Mario 2 was the shit back in the day! Then again, I ate a lot of paint chips as a kid haha.

Still no Zelda though, that game ruled.

I remember being in grade school and there was a line at the local gas station/party shop that just got the original super mario bros. arcade. It was nuts. People would wait forever just to play.

As already said, SMB 2 was a different game that got Mario characters put in it. The actual Japanese SMB 2 did eventually get released in America on the SNES as part of Super Mario All-Stars. It was called the Lost Levels.

Basically, it was SMB 1's game engine, graphics, etc. with a much higher difficulty. I also think there were minor differences between Mario and Luigi as far as jumping ability. I haven't played it yet, but probably will work around to it one day, as it's one of like 300 games on my computer.

Yeah, Mario 3 was far above the first couple games. The only flaw it had (which was corrected for the SNES Super Mario All-Stars) was that there wasn't any password/battery feature. Back in the day, my parents weren't big into letting me have those all-day "NOTHING BUT NINTENDO" sessions, so it just seemed I'd be rushing through the game with warps and skipping half the levels.

Thats funny, because all of my friends preferred SMB2 over SMB3. I liked SMB1 the best out of the first 3, though in terms of "traditional" style mario games, my favorite is hands down super mario world for SNES. Other than that, a personal favorite is Super Mario RPG.

lol yea me too, i feel that's one of those games that's almost mandatory to get a players guide.

On a relatively cool note, a skating rink about 5 miles south of my hometown has the original donkey kong vs. mario arcade game.

I think I've beat all of the games except for the SMB1. The best though is SMB 3.

How in the hell have you never beaten SMB1? In my prime, I could take it down in 8 minutes. Never got close to beating SMB2...got to the final level in SMB3, but I never could beat it.
