So your proof is...... nothing?

OSU gets called on ticky tack shit all the time. My proof? Santonio Homes dives into the endzone to split 2 defenders who were right there and he gets flagged for excessive celebration.

Game at Ohio State-Guy with cowboy hat and Ohio State cape. (More like the ridiculous amount of taunting and unsportsmanlike acts committed by OSU players every game. I have never seen a more "chippy" team than OSU)]
Really? That's funny, because I watch a lot of teams that have guys that get up and do the superman pose for making a tackle at the line of scrimmage, a ball carrier that gets up and celebrates like he just scored a TD after he gains 4 yards...Miami vs. Georgia Tech is a GREAT example from last year. There were a couple threads started on the old huddle about how the taunting and UNNECESSARY celebrations in that game were completely ridiculous. Another team that jumps to mind, year in and year out, is LSU. They had a DT a few years ago when the won the NC that EVERY SINGLE TIME HE MADE A TACKLE AT THE LINE, he got up and swung his arms in the air and strutted around like he was half retarded and just won a prize or something. Never seen a more "chippy" team than OSU? Did you happen to watch the Rose Bowl? It's like Oregon's offense hadn't had a run longer than 5 yards all year...or at least you would think by the way they celebrated every one over 5 yards...You must not watch much football. Unless it's a TD, I don't hardly ever see them celebrate at all, let alone do anything that's far and beyond ridiculous.
I don't think he liked the "chippy" comment.....:D

Take off your Maize & Blue glasses and we'll talk. Or...here's a novel idea, provide some substance to back up your broad brush strokes.

Forget it...save yourself the time, you'll not find more than 2 examples if you're lucky, which won't be enough to substantiate your claims so you'd best be served to shut the fuck up.
Do I have time to sit through and cut up film from the last 20 years? No. Watch OSU games not as a fan but to look at how they really play and you will see that every shoving match and every "bump" as they walk back to the huddle is initiated by OSU players (typically in big games). It is almost as they have been coached to start the altercation because everone knows the retaliator gets flagged.

My dad is as big of an OSU fan as they come (and an extremely obnoxious one at that) and he is the one who brought OSU's "chippyness" to my attention. I went to high school with a guy who played for OSU and he even said that it was so bad in PRACTICE that there was a fight every day. He still says to this day that he was always on alert in practice because he didnt want to get sucker punched.

For the proof you want...I will just give you the upcoming season. Watch closely, not as a die hard fan, but as a neutral observer and you will see it.

Now...are they the only team in the country who does it? Not even close. Every team has chippy guys. OSU just has an abundance of them.

If I had posted my comment on a forum that isnt loaded with OSU fans...I guarantee you that people would have agreed.

By the way...the post about Tom Izzo at MSU games is so dead on its not even funny. They show him all the time.

And the one about the kickers at OSU...also true. My friend who played there always stood by the kickers net when they were warming up because he knew that the camera would cut to them at some point. He was on TV every single game for 4 years, even when he wasnt in the game.
I think possibly more so during the Cooper years, I don't see it so much now. As for dirty "chippy" play, I have always thought "the Fighting Illini" were by far the worst in the Big Ten. Michigan, OSU and Penn State for the most part, I think, play good clean football with less taunting than most other teams.

OSU has had some chippy players during the Tressel days (ie.. Will Smith, Robert Reynolds are a couple that come to mind) but as someone who watches alot of College football OSU is no where near as chippy as teams like Virginia Tech, Miami, LSU, FSU, Florida, USC, Ill, Oregon, and Oklahoma. The worst team I have seen is Va Tech every year they have 1 - 2 players who take cheapshots and celebrate everything. The worst individual I have ever seen was Tyson Jackson at LSU. Another very chippy player that come to mind was Kellen Winslow JR on Miami. It was fun to see him and Will Smith go at it in the NC game.

In the past couple years the only really chippy player on OSU that comes to mind is Ross Homan. He seems to grab facemasks alot toward the end of plays.

I wouldn't go that far--besides the Reynolds/Sorgi episode,I can't think of too many "dirty" plays on the field--especially during the Tressel Era.

I guess it was mainly the past 2 seasons. Living in Big 12 country and watching the games down here every time Texas was on here there were about 15 commercials a game showing Jones Hyping his new Stadium.

Ohio State announcer always say Terrell Pryor is 6'6" 235lbs everytime he touches the ball.

Jim Tressel chewing on a piece of gum.

Brian Kelly ripping into someone on the sideline.

Singing Rocky top all night long.... wait a minute.

In fairness, they always mentioned Tony Pike was 6'6 as well. I don't know why sports announcers get so excited about a 6'6 QB. A lot of the QB's are around 6'4 or 6'5. It is not as if Pike or Pryor were 7 feet tall.

This reminded me something I heard a lot last year as well. When Colt McCoy went down in the Alabama game last year, Herbstreit and Musberger must have called Gilbert a "True Freshman" 100 times or more.

Here is some foreshadowing:

I was watching the Michigan spring game Saturday night, and I heard this almost evertime he took the field...

"Devin Gardner is a tall fast kid with a lot of raw talent....He reminds me a lot of Terrell Pryor...."

IF Devin Gardner somehow starts this year, we will hear a constant comparrison between these 2 for the next 2 years.

bigkahuna,

True dat. Just as we heard and still hear comparisions of TP to Vince Young. The media likes to lump certain people in a category and proclaim they are the next ______. I expect we'll see someone be called the next Tim Tebow next.

They love panning to the sea of orange at our games. Oh, and don't forget Howard's Rock and the hill. And probably some stat about how we have lost a game we shouldn't have, lol.

Hilarious.

They always show the Vol Navy at Tennessee games.
Any Boise game anymore you always see Johnson proposing.
Games at Washington..a panaramic shots of the stadium with the announcer saying 'perhaps one of the best settings for college football'.
LSU home games they always show the pregame tailgate with some Cajun cooking shrimp and crawfish.
