Hernandez needs to keep the ball off the ground in the infield in this AB.

Good win....Cubs bullpen is awesome.

Why doesn't Dusty ever know when to take a pitcher out? He was clearly tired versus Fukedome (who had hit him twice already) with Lee and Ramirez to follow. Dusty forced 3 extra batters, 2 BB and about 12-14 extra pitches.

Good to see Chapman in the minors throwing 101 and striking out 9 in less than 5 innings.

Stubbs needs to steal 50+ this year. Jay Bruce PH versus a tough lefty....awesome. He's nearing in on Austin Kearnsville

The Cubs are in no-way, shape or form better than the Reds.

The rotations are about even. Neither offense can score consistently. The Reds pen is far better.

The only advantage the Cubs have is at manager, and unfortunately, that might be worthy of 6-8 wins a year.

I don't see Chicago finishing much ahead of Cincinnati this year though.

I'll take a 3-3 start with Cueto, Arroyo, and Bailey coming up. Pretty favorable schedule ahead, need to finish the month a couple over .500

Pretty good game today. The offense was driving me crazy. Once again the team is terrible at situational hitting.

Stubbs will be fine, just be patient. I swear, I hate when people look at 2 games and act like the sky is falling because he has struck out a good bit. Perhaps you guys have forgotten about Fast Willy?

Cairo again pinch hitting in a big situation? (I know Cairo got the knock, but he isn't good... and he should have been out. He hit it right to the pitcher). Seriously Dusty? Bringing an ice cold Bruce in to pinch hit against a lefty (when he struggles against lefties anyway?) Leake running on fumes and Dusty leaving him out there? Haha I could keep going. He is a bad manager.

Leake reminds me of Arroyo. He looks like him, throws similar pitches, and he can hit. At one point I think Leake had 2 of the Reds 3 hits haha.

I was driving back from Columbus listening to the game and when the go ahead run got walked in I think I almost swerved and hit 2 cars. My apologies if that was anyone on here.

Adam Rosales had a HR and 3 rbi for Oakland.....Taveras had 4 RBI in one game for the Nationals and Alex Gonzalez has 2 HR and 4 RBi for the Blue Jays....and i think goodness they are doing well as of now for someone else......but it is unlikely to last.

I'm still really bothered by the insertion of a struggling Bruce into the game against a lefty. I understand that Baker was thinking that any kind of success in this situation may get Bruce out of his funk, but he really didn't consider the flip side. You already have a guy who couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle (1-15 this season), who is notoriously poor against lefties (.195/.280/.307 career) and now you put him in cold to a high-pressure situation?! When he fails, which the best in the game do 2/3 of the time, what will that do to get him out of his slump? Absolutely, freaking nothing!! It kills his confidence even more. This is why Baker was not the right hire for a team that has young players. I said it then and I'll maintain it now.

The Cubs might be the worst team in baseball. The only hope they have is if Geo starts smoking again and regains something remotely resembling his ROY form and Sori decides to hit above the Mendoza line. The middle relief is pathetic but I think Marmol can be lights out in the back of the pen if he gains any consistency; his stuff is about as nasty as it comes. The rotation is okay but there is no stopper. Lilly, Wells, Dempster, and Z are all 2's or 3's...Good for the back end of the rotation but none of those guys are ones I'm real confident can put the brakes on a two or three game skid or extend a four or five game win streak on a consistent basis like an ace does. To be honest I think it comes back to the offense. A good offense can cover up shaky middle relief and the Cubs SP is solid enough to keep them in games. I believe they were at or near the top of the NL is quality starts last year.
