This opening round series will get under way either Wednesday or Thursday at the Mellona Arena. This will be the third time in four years that these teams have squared off in the opening round, Ottawa won in five games three years ago and the Pens swept the Senators two years ago.

The Pens enter as the 4th seed and on unsteady form. Ottawa made a charge later in the year and are pretty healthy. Pittsburgh has some injury issues with Kunitz and tonight, Brooks Orpik was cut by a skate. If Orpik is lost for the playoffs or any amount of time, the Pens are in big trouble. Pittsburgh needs Fleury to stay hot in goal and some developed chemistry with new winger Ponikarovsky on Malkin's line. Crosby is Crosby and I expect him to carry this team. I also feel that Ottawa has no answer for the Pens 3rd line of Staal, Kennedy and Cooke.

Won't be easy but IMO, the Pens win in 6 games.

I also think Crosby has to carry them more right now than in the past couple years.

Should be able to win this series but I think a lot has to come together quickly for them to make another deep run.

Crosby said "Damn, I'm glad I cross checked and punched Kane from behind, b/c if I'd have stood toe to toe with him I might not be playing in this series"....

Haha you troll....

Pittsburgh has not had the kind of season I had expected, considering their Stanley Cup last year, but I think they have a little too much for the Senators. i'd really like to see the Senators eliminate them, but then I'm a Red Wings fan and am currently hoping against all logic that the Wings make last season go away for me with a thrilling Stanley Cup run this season, but that may be too much to count on.

Pens look very shaky right now and could honestly get bounced by the Sens. I doubt it, but if the injuries continue to mount and Fleury doesn't find his game, it will be a quick exit for the reigning champs.

Ignore him....hes weird and obsessed.

I'm honestly not too confident going into the post season. I could see Pitts winning this one with no trouble, and I could also see them sucking and going out in 6 or 7.

Lets not forget that Kovalev is out for the rest of the year with a torn ACL. It's not like he's done anything for the Sens anyways. Pittsburgh in 6 or 7.

I thought last year the Round 1 games on VS were blacked out in the Pittsburgh viewing area because of FSN Pittsburgh, which sucks for me because I'm in the Pittsburgh viewing area but worthless Time-Warner won't give us Fox Pittsburgh so I'm SOL.

Heard that info today on espn1250 and 93.7 the fan. I'll double check.

Edit, according to this all games in this series will be carried locally on FSN Pittsburgh:

http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=525073

They will also have the big screen (aka, Mario's TV) outside Mellon Arena for those who can't get in to see the game, which definitely means FSN is carrying the games. (remember NBC wouldn't allow it last year)

Another interesting tid bit is the Pens finished with 101 points, which I think is the fourth most ever in team history. That's why I find it hard to believe they will struggle in this series or through out the playoffs, they're going to be tough to beat over seven games. IMO, it shows that they are better suited for a playoff series, they haven't had many losing skids this year. Just hope they can kick it in to another gear and soundly eliminate Ottawa and fatigue doesn't play a factor, they've played a ton of hockey over the last two years.

^^^The only time they had losing skids is when the team was ravaged with injuries during november and december and when Malkin played with his head up his ass.

I voted 4 games and ment to vote 5... If anyone can fix that? :)

Pens will win game 1 the same way they have been playing all year long... Inconsistent. Then game 2 will be won by Ottawa in ugly fashion because they will actually "compete" to win. That will wake the Pens up and its their series from that game on.

I cannot wait until your Beefalo LeSabres are where they belong... Watching the play-offs.

As far as the Pens go, this is when you have to come alive. If the team does not respond, Crosby is going to have to quit passing so much. I saw AT LEAST 12 opportunities in the final 4 games of the regular season where he passed and instead he should have went to the net. I understand we are not a one man team, but sometimes the situation calls for the man with the plan... Let it rip Crosby. Let the team work with you and keep the defense focused on you instead of them focusing on you first and the rest of the team second. It worked before...
