It depends on which international side and club you are making the comparison with. Real Madrid have more talent on hand than say Honduras. On the flip side Spain or Brazil have more talent than a champions league side like Bordeaux. There are some clubs that have more quality than the vast majority of national sides, but there aren't many of them, maybe 8 at the most.
That's what I tried to say but Rock is too close-minded to read. Comparing high level Champions league teams to say honduras and Mexico and what not, then yeah they are definitely better. But to say these club teams are better than the best international teams is just ignorant.

god you are a moron...I said that the higher level club teams are better than mid to low level international teams. BUT I don't agree that the higher level club teams are better than the higher level international teams.

IMO the only international teams that compare would be Spain, Brazil and maybe France and England.. England has the talent, but until they put it all together on the WC stage I'm keeping them out. France and England are very similar, great individual talent, but have difficulties coming together as a team.

All this footie talk gets me fired up. I can't wait for the WC!!

Based just off of TALENT it is usually pretty equal (but Barca, Real, and Inter have way more than any country can put together). Hell, all you have to do is look at their benches and realize how many of those guys start for their national teams. Barca would run rampant through Spains national side and Spain is the best club in the world. But you can only make this argument, imo, with the top 5 or so clubs in the world.

As for Barca....yeah, they are sick and I LOVE it!

The CL as a whole has much better teams and talent than the WC, but it doesnt matter because the drama and excitement for playing for your country makes it the best sporting event in the world. As a whole, the CL almost always features the top players in the world which you cant say about the WC (I mean, Ibrahimovic isnt even in the WC).

I disagree. The Spanish players on Barca are obviously a wash, because they would hypothetically be on both teams.

So you really think that the non-Spanish Barca players are that much better than the non-Barca Spanish players?

I would really have to think before I took the group of Ibra, Messi, Alves, Marquez, etc. over Casillas, Silva, Villa, Torres, Cesc, Xabi Alonso, Ramos, Capdevilla, etc.

The only reason I would even consider it is because of Messi, otherwise I would take Spain in a landslide.

Spain's side is absolutely loaded from top to bottom. Torres and Villa have to be the best forward tandem on the international level.

Not like I'm going out on a limb or anything, but they are my pick to win it all.

All I want is for the US to make it out of the group and Italy to do terrible.

Mulva----Yep, mainly due to the fact these guys play together for 10 months of a year where International teams get like 3 days preparation before games (WC they get a few weeks).

We will go line-up by line-up

-------------------------------------Casialls (over Valdes)--------------------------------------

--Alves (over Ramos)----------Puyol (Puyol)-------Pique (Pique)-------Abidal (over any of the LB Spain has churned out)

-----------Iniesta (Iniesta)------------Youre (over Alonso or Capdevilla or Senna)----Xavi (Xavi)

----Messi (over Silva)----------------Villa (over Ibra)---------------Fabregas (over Pedro)

Although Spain runs a 4-4-2 so Cesc would be on the bench and Torres would be up top with Villa with Silva in the midfield. In that case....Silva might start over Keita or Busquets or Pedro. But personally I think Keita and Pedro bring more to the table that Silva (who is way to much of a 1 way player, especially for Spain when he is in the mid/winger role).

Then you go to the bench and it frankly isnt even close.

Barca played a 4-4-2 yesterday...or something similar. I was surprised to see it. They have Messi playing up front a lot lately, which could have something to do with his insane goal outburst.

Yeah, they did. Also had Alves in the right mid position. They knew Real was gonna be fouling a ton and they wanted to make sure they dominated the possession of the midfield through it (per Guardiola). Last year he moved Messi behind Eto'o in a weird formation and it worked brilliantly in the Bernabeau (6-2 win). But for the most part (in fact every game but yesterday) Barca plays a 4-3-3..and to be completely honest it turns into a 3-4-3 or a 2-5-3 a lot of the time with Abidal/Maxwell and Alves playing midfield roles who occasinally have to get back and defend.

Pep is just a mastermind tactician on the pitch.

Also, Messi has been the central striker when Ibra is out (because Henry isnt in form at all) and Pedro/Bojan/Jeffren/Iniesta/etc play the wings. But he was scoring a ton before Ibra was out but not in the amounts he is right now I agree.

Laley have you ever been to Barcelona? If not you gotta check it out. Nou Camp is amazing, along with the girls, nightlife, city, etc. Awesome place!

Valencia is still my fav Spanish city though!

take the barca glasses off laley, no way in hell do they beat Spain, let alone "run rampart"

We will just have to disagree. I also think Real would beat Spain. International teams arent nearly as deep as the top clubs, even the top international teams (Brazil is the only nation I think is deeper than the top clubs).

Barcelona is a better team all around than Spain. Who in the back line to you put ahead of Abidal or Alves (or even Milito)?

Who do you put ahead of Yaya Toure in the holding mid?

The only place Spain is even close to competing with Barca is up top with Villa and Torres. But Messi is better than both and Ibra isnt a slouch when comparing him to Torres. The creative forward/midfield would be an edge to Spain with Fab/Silva ahead of the players I mentioned for Barca...but that only occurs when we switch around one of the teams formations.

Take the (10) positions that would play regardless of formation and the only (2) who are not from Barca would be Casillas in net and Torres up top.
