Currently beating Real Madrid 2-0 with 15 minutes to go. The game never looked in doubt, despite Madrid having way more shots. Barca killed them on time of possession.

Also, Messi with ANOTHER goal.

I'm not too familiar with Spanish cup tournaments. Is it possible they can go for a treble? I'm almost guaranteeing they will win La Liga, and I doubt anyone can in the CL can take them either.

Sevilla took Barca out in the Copa Del Rey round of 16. It's Sevilla and Atletico Madrid in the final there. Messi has been unreal this season.

Champions League is awesome. I'd go as far to even say that has better quality teams/players than the World Cup.

I think Automatic is spot on with that one. The clubs play together much more than international squads and are in better sync. Countries are pretty much at the mercy of the players they have available (which is a ton of talent for some), clubs on the other hand, especially rich ones can buy what ever they need.

Barca have to be prohibitive favorites for the Champions League as well as La Liga now that they are 3 points clear of los blancos. I am very interested for the Champions League semi with Inter. If there is a guy who can devise a plan to nullify Messi it would be José Mourinho. But Messi's form at the moment is just unreal, he is staking his claim as the greatest player of this generation rather emphatically. I am pretty sure that you have to have something approximating his run of form to prompt a chocolatier to devise a life size chocolate Messi. He's pretty fucking amazing right now.

Yeah, certain clubs have more talent than smaller countries..but to say these clubs are better than say Spain, England, Italy, etc. is just dumb...as far as the smaller countries, i definitely agree that the Barcelonas of the world are a lot better than them

ALL the big clubs have more collective talent than most any national side. Clubs like Man Utd and Barca field mostly players who are also first team selections for their country.

As stated before...

Major clubs go after the TOP TALENT to their starting 11. International teams field the best from their respective countries. More often then not the top clubs will have the stronger teams.

Saying England is better than some of the clubs is asinine. Have you even watched their international team play in the last few years? They have been decent during this WC qualifying, but with the talent they have, they have been atrocious in the past years. They didn't even qualify for the Euro. That is absolutely unacceptable.....ask any Brit and they will tell you the same.

The Champions League brings the best talent in the world on the best clubs in the world.

Barca, United, Inter....the majority of those players are starting for their countries. This point has been argued over and over again on Sky Sports. I'm surprised Durkie is disagreeing with it. A casual fan might disagree.....but watch enough and you will see where I'm getting...

Nothing is better than the World Cup... Nothing.

I will admit though, Barca is looking like it may be the best club team in the world. Messi is unreal right now.

I still wish ManU would have kept Ronaldo if possible.

I agree. As a whole I think the WC is the greatest sporting event on the planet....and I mean that.

But when compared to the talent of each team collectively in a single tourney....the CL is above it.

Also, United had no chance at Ronaldo. When a team offers as much as Real did....you take it. I don't think a team on earth is going to take a player over that amount of dough.

Wow, Durkie you're clueless when it comes to soccer too!

What's laughable? If you guys think that an international squad has more collective talent than one of the big clubs you're crazy!

I'm 22 in May, been playing the game since I was 5 on high level club teams and collegiately and I coach as well. To say I'm clueless is laughable when it comes to soccer topics. The fact is, yes a lot of these clubs have unreal talent and I understand the argument about them getting the top talent in the world, not just one country. BUT, as a whole, the top teir club teams don't compare to top tier international teams. The ONLY one at the moment who I would even consider putting in that argument is Barca...You can agree to disagree with me if that makes you feel better rock.

Man U, Real Madrid, Inter, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool would get spanked by Spain, England, Italy, Brazil, etc. and it's not even a question in my eye.

It depends on which international side and club you are making the comparison with. Real Madrid have more talent on hand than say Honduras. On the flip side Spain or Brazil have more talent than a champions league side like Bordeaux. There are some clubs that have more quality than the vast majority of national sides, but there aren't many of them, maybe 8 at the most.
