I see Mr Rooneys comment as no big deal. If he said yes he supports him then that looks bad that he supports a guy who has two sex crime accusations.

BR will be the QB. He wont be traded. He will be suspended two games.

Write that down.

^what do we expect from it?

I think they will discuss how disgusted they are, apologize for the messes, and say an appropriate punishment is forthcoming. I dont expect a suspension to be announced...do you?

The Steelers will wait to see what the league does regarding a suspension. BR can appeal a suspension issued by the team, but not the league.

^^If the team does it expect the union to file a grievance. They tried with Dookie until the realized he was just made inactive. If the league does it then the NFLPA I dont think can do anything..but the teams have very limited options since giving up power in the CBA a while ago.
I hope the league allows the team do to it. I really could see the steelers suspension be longer than the league would give them. Sometimes when you give he power of suspension to another you will see them come down harder.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Rooney acknowledged that it is a "serious matter," and that he believes the situation is being "handled properly" by team president Art Rooney (Dan's son), coach Mike Tomlin, and director of football operations Kevin Colbert.

Here's the kicker -- asked whether the Steelers organization supports Roethlisberger, Rooney said, "I'm not making any comment on that."
I don't think Dan Rooney meant when he said "I'm not making any comment on that" that the Steelers support Roethlisberger or don't support Roethlisberger. I think he meant it to say that the other members of the Steelers brass are handling it.

He stated that earlier that team president Art Rooney II, along with director of football operations Kevin Colbert and coach Mike Tomlin are handling the situation and not him since he's in a different role as Ambassador to Ireland. Although obviously he acknowledged it is a "serious matter."

I do believe, however, something can be made about the way Ben's public statement was made on Monday. Some members of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said that usually the Steelers hold press conferences in their press conference room. This was in the locker room. And it was just Ben not a bunch of people standing behind him in support. I don't think they are 100 percent committed to him. It's more like yeah they want him to grow up and be a better human being, whether that's with the Steelers or elsewhere, but it doesn't mean it will be with the Steelers. That could change if the Steelers get a blockbuster trade offer or some other allegation comes out in the next few weeks.

Pro Football Talk is probably correct in speculating that a suspension could be coming.

I would think the Steelers and the league are working hand and hand on the suspension. I'll stand with the group that thinks Ben will be gone before the draft. I just cant see the Rooneys keeping this guy around, especially after all the fan backlash they are recieving.

I say they hold off on the suspension and just castrate this big, dumb, ape before some other poor drunk girl gets the bathroom treatment.....

What a low-life. This kind of behavior doesn't just cease either. I agree, we haven't seen the last of Roethlisrapist.....

Another thing I agree with Mike Florio about is that the Steelers themselves have made no comments the past few days so they've allowed the fans and the media to dictate whether Roethlisberger is still wanted or should be traded.

Rooney II could be realizing that now and will just make clear their intentions rather than let the avalanche of speculation continue.

Rooney II needs to come out and act quickly. Before the DA statement I did not think a suspension was warranted, but after hearing what he had to say my tune has changed. I say a 2 game suspension by the team and lets move on.

No way do they get rid of him.

I dont know. I can see the Rooneys sitting in their office with steam coming out of their ears over this embarrassment. If they can get the right package for him, I can see him outta here. Listening to the talk shows the last few days, people are actually burning their #7 jerseys.

Exactly. All off the field shit aside....think of all the amazing plays Ben made to keep Pittsburgh in games and to get Ws. You don't just trade for another QB like that. If he they do end up getting rid of him watch out....Pittsburgh is in trouble. But like I said....no chance hes gone.

Let's put it this way, if he wasn't a franchise QB he would be gone.

The Steelers realize that even with their desire to reclaim their image, it's hard to find a QB that wins Super Bowls, two in the last five years. That may buy him one more chance.

Some people are off base when they say that all that matters is winning and who cares what they're like off the field.

The Steelers have tried to place an emphasis on drafting good players and good characters players. That doesn't mean they'll never have problems but over the course of 30-40 years they were able to build a reputation as a winning organization and a first-class organization. At least one of the franchises that the national media considered to have higher standards. They're tarnishing their image. But that means there was a good image to tarnish. They're going to get back to what has worked for a long time, but this is an exception situation because of how difficult it is to find a top QB.

Youre dead on non..and what ive been trying to tell those who think they should and will get rid of him.

They wont. No way. they can be as disgusted as anyone but I think unless he does it again, or woulda been charged and incarcerated there isnt a way they will get rid of him. Even as bad as this is there is still that inkling of doubt that both were poor judgment and they were consensual acts. Immoral...yeah...no doubt.

He has alot of repairing of his image to do..and its a long way off till the season. He will get some boos..but when the TD and Wins start coming...the fans will rejoice.

that is the nature of sports. LIke it...or not.

It's pretty much cut and dry. With Ben they're a Super Bowl contending team, if they trade him they're not. That's tough to digest even if you're serious about trying to reclaim the image, which the Steelers are.

But I think there's going to be a line he'll have to walk. It's not like they're just going to keep him because to hell with the image, they want to win again, they're going to need him to make a drastic change in the way he represents the team.
