Having cross regional favorite teams is like being bisexual: make up your damn mind!
yeah, whats with all these Steelers fans who also like the Indians and/or Cavs
Doesn't saying "go Cleveland!" and "fuck Cleveland!" at the same time seem a bit odd....?
I always find this conversation interesting. I guess if you actually live in a particular city or go to a lot of live games, this makes sense. Most people's immediate influences probably play a role in that also.
Personally, I grew up on The Sporting News, watching national television, and family influences from all over the country. I caught myself up on history and pretty much learned to read by obsessing through over a decade's worth of TSN back copies that my uncle gave to me. As a kid, I only ever went to baseball games live and that was only for the couple years I lived in California. So, proximity wasn't really a relevant factor. I like certain players, coaches, styles of play, hell even uniforms and helmets played a role.
I have my "favorites" but I've also had plenty of secondary teams that at times I root for just as much because of who happens to be playing there at the moment.
NFL: Cowboys - since I started watching; enjoyed the Raiders, Rams, Cardinals, and Saints at different times
NBA: Spurs - since Terry Cummings went there from the Bucks; always followed Dennis Rodman and Larry Johnson, as well
MLB: White Sox - since Robin Ventura started; remained partial to the Angels and Dodgers
