Wall was considering going pro last year if i remember correctly. was going to try and exploit a loophole about being held back a grade or prep school or something like that.

and kellogg said during the NC game that the reason hayward wasn't so highly regarded was because he spent his summers playing tennis as opposed to the AAU basketball circuit.

Duke does a very good job graduating players.Marquette, BYU, Wake Forest, and Notre Dame have done an exceptional job graduating players. Many other schools do an acceptable job as well.

It is troubling that African-American players graduate at a much lower rate than their caucasian counterparts. In fact, the difference between the two groups is sometimes staggering.

I am not sure what impact early entrants to the NBA have on the report, but here is the link.

Well, that is the same poster who is convinced that all this talk about Turner being great is solely a product of OSU homerism...even though it's the national media giving him all those player of the year awards, so comments like that should be taken with enough grains of salt to fill 50 Great Salt Lakes.

For now, yes. However, he tested the waters last year, and is graduating in less than a month. It would be pretty shocking if he was back.

Uh, thats because they had no one else to play at PG, and no depth. Next year, that won't be the case.
OSU will be a top 15 team at the very least...possibly top 10. And once those frosh get experience as the season goes on...they will only get better.
Next years team will have a great mix of SENIORS and youth.
Don't talk about things you have no clue about.

Can you blame her? Its not like he is one of the frosh who were only there for one year. He has been at UK for 3yrs and from all I have read, its a top notch young man who is graduating this spring as well.
I personally think he deserves a little more from UK.

I always get a kick out of that discussion, and its ignorant. How Izzo recruits 4yr players, guys who were 3,4 star players. Thats complete BS. These guys(coaches) are all after the best of the best. Some get them, some don't, but they are still after the 5 star players that are out there.
izzo and K may recruit 5 star players, but they recruit the 5 star TEAM players as was evidenced this year. i thought it was pretty common knowledge that K doesnt really want you if you're going to bolt after one season. izzo seems to be the same way.

I agree with CBF.

K wanted John Wall and went after him with fervor. K also signed a possible one and done player for next year in Kyrie Irving.

Izzo recruited and signed Zach Randolph. He played ONE year for the Spartans and bolted to to the NBA.

Every coach would prefer a player that commits to the program for more than one year, but when those players are right in your own back yard, it is important to protect your territory. No coach on the planet would have said "No Thanks" to Greg Oden.

who was the last one and done duke player? how many have there been in the last decade? i can only count one and that was because of off court issues. how many one and done's has izzo had in the last decade? one in randolph. who else? seems to me that when that meeting takes in the kids home, they make it clear. did it ever occur to anyone that wall didnt go to duke because k told he wanted him to stay at least three years? just some food for thought. i for one dont want duke giving anyone a scholly if they're only staying for one year. wasted scholly in my opinion and this year proved it.

Loul Deng was the seventh pick after his freshman year at Duke. Was he the one with off the court issues? Shaun Livingston would also have been a sure one-and-done for Duke, but he decided at the end to declare straight out of high school.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact the freshman aren't usually given star roles at Duke or Michigan State, and they usually aren't developed enough to leave after one year.

FR Elton Brand -- 13.4 and 7.3; started 18 games including injury-plagued season; became NPOTY as a sophomore

FR Jason Williams -- 14.5 and 6.5; started every game; became NPOTY as a sophomore

FR Chris Duhon -- starting PG for national champion; became pg of best backcourt in the nation as a sophomore

FR J.J. Redick -- 15.0 and 40% from 3-PT; started 30 games

If you think JJ Redick and Chris Duhon were NBA-ready after their first year then I've got no argument. But that's a joke to me. And Deng was just mentioned by me. Its not like a didn't realize who's come out of Duke in the last decade. I was telling ZeroCool that Coach K doesn't recruit solely four year players. He recruits talent and potential, including a ton of possible one-and-dones. It just happens to be the four year players that usually find his program most attractive.

I'm not saying they were NBA-ready. I'm merely disputing the argument that K doesn't develop freshmen.

College basketball isn't all about jumping to the NBA after one year. That isn't all I'm concerned with. I'm quite happy that four-year guys find our program to be attractive. Although, whether more four-year guys are attracted to Duke than other schools is certainly up for debate.

Would I also mind some ungodly talented two-year guys? Yes, I would. And we're getting that with Kyrie Irving. But even though K does recruit one-year guys, I don't really care if we land them. At least not with K at the helm. He's proven time and again, more so than any other coach in the game, that he can turn three and four-year players into champions at a higher rate than anyone else can with any other type of combination (read: Coach Cal).

Just because K and Izzo dont get the one and dones doesnt mean they dont recruit them.

Here are the one and dones off the top of my head:

Luol Deng (Duke)
Corey Maggette (Duke)
Jason Richardson (MSU)
Zach Randolph (MSU)

Then you have a couple who went after their SO years.

How did this year prove this? Because UK lost in the Elite Eight to WVU?? Please..that loss proved that UK's outside shooting was their fatal flaw. Nothing more, nothing less.

How many teams lost in the tournament using 3 and 4 year players?? The vast majority.Collins and Aldrich led Kansas. Wisconsin was led by Hughes, Bohanan, Leuer,,.... the list is long.

I am of the opinion that college coaches don't develop NBA talent. They develop college talent. When you look at recent NBA draft history very few of the first round picks are Juniors or Seniors. The NBA drafts talent and potential and most of the top picks weren't developed in college. They were really good out of high school.

By the time a player is a senior his talent is probably maxed out and his potential is limited. He has been developed to play a system and natural development has likely taken place, but the talents needed to excel in the NBA are not and never were there.
