I used to be equally idealistic...and then this sad truth eventually hit me over the head like a 2x4.

It's like having cancer and taking an aspirin for the pain rather than doing chemo.
Not necessarily. across the board freezes for 3 years for all entitlements; 15% cuts across the board in all other deparments; and a couple years of economic growth and you would probably get there. And guess what, no one would even notice the difference. Then after that, REQUIRE that the federal budget be balanced just like most or all states.

I know for certain that I will

ANY Democrat that would vote for a 3rd party or Republican candidate is not a true Democrat.

Why wouldn't you vote for him cbus?? Not liberal enough?
Because i don't like the way he has handled things thus far?

Health care for starters.

Foreign policy...no issues there.

But, as far as domestic issues are concerned, just haven't been a huge fan.

And, he's plenty liberal enough, but just because he is a liberal doesn't mean i have to agree on how he is enacting those "liberal" policies.

Not all liberal policies, initiatives, etc., are bad, but HOW you go about implementing them is the problem. And, how you go about structuring them. I don't think the health care bill is a positive step at all.

Just because one is a liberal doesn't mean that you need to rack up enormous debt, etc. That is the crux of the image problem that the Democratic party has at the moment. You can be a liberal and still not go through horrendous spending, increase the deficit, go into even more debt, etc. The debt and democrat do not have to go hand-in-hand.

Obama is far to the left, as i am, but just because we're both far to the left doesn't mean i'm going to support all that he is doing.

And, i would considering voting for a Republican if i believe that they are what the country needs at the time, and that, during his or her term, they would be able to bring positive things to the office.

Ideally, i would find a leftist candidate to support, who i can trust to conduct affairs in a positive manner, enacting his or her initiatives in a fiscally responsible manner. Cutting where needed, expanding where needed, all with the goal of bringing spending under control as much as possible. A Democrat is just as capable of doing that as a Republican, it just takes the right person in office.

I don't subscribe to the point of view that being a democrat means you have to be a liberal.

Democrats can be conservative, also.

anyone who believes one "party" is right all the time instead of looking at that parties ideas on a case by case basis is an idiot

By the same token, Republicans are also not conservatives either.

People like Gibby are the ones who go through life buying the myth that all democrats are "for the little guy" and republicans are "for the rich". All democrats are tolerant of others beliefs and all republicans are racists.

The sooner people recognize there all wonks in both parties and stop drinking the respective kool aid the better we will be.

Gibby,

There's nothing wrong and absolutely everything right being an independent thinker inside of a political party.

People should never, ever, feel like they can only vote between R and D lines. Or that they have to.

I see you ask all the time, so I'll ask you: do you have proof to back that up?

I'm guessing you're between the age of 19-22 yrs old, am I right? It would explain your outlook.
