how far away can this be heard?

I'd guess 30 miles, but its not very loud and is only for a minute. Back in the Apollo days, the ground shook and windows rattled a lot more but it has all became lighter and more efficient fuel made it not as spectacular. The rumble is unlike any other sound. Those pics are from 10-12 miles away.

I saw a night launch from over 300 miles away last year. It was gorgeous.

I watched a launch once from 12 miles away, it's sweet because you see the launch, and because sound travels slower than light, the sound catches up to you moments later ... very cool to experience.
