Westbrook with a rough opening day. He is gonna have to regain form quicker than most coming off that surgery do for the Tribe to even be remotely close to competing.
Of course, Shawn Marcum of Torono is making his first start in over a year (Tommy John) and has a no-no through 6...lol

Looks like The Tribe is getting a jump start on their race to put 100 + in the L column this season.

Laffey with a good job. I would venture to say he will be a starter by the end of the year.

Thought for sure I'd see shelbucks here today...for old times sake.
Hammy & Hegan are already breaking out the excuses for Jake....humidity in Chicago vs. Arizona is affecting grip, thus the wildness (which is backwards...shouldn't humidty increase grip?)....and saying this is his first "real" game in a long time (that's probably true).
Gonna be a long season.

(Dude then gave up 3 runs, but fuck, Westbrook gave up 2 in his first 2/3 of an inning)

Actually humidity makes the movement on the ball greater, making it harder to throw trikes. That's was probably what they were getting at.RedRider1 wrote: Thought for sure I'd see shelbucks here today...for old times sake.

Agreed. Acta gets a grade today of F. Why would he select Jake as the opening pitcher? Can't he look at the spring numbers?miller45452003 wrote: Wow....Westbrook is really bad. Strike 1 on Acta for making this dumbass our #1.
Fausto was the obvioius choice.
Secondly, moving last year's best starter (by a wide margin) to the pen is idiotic. Indians already had 2 lefties out there. Makes NO SENSE to put Laffey out there.
Third, Westbrook didn't have it. Acta...you pulled a Wedgie by waiting until the game was out of reach to remove him. Why?
Rant over. But for tribe fans, the Indians will struggle against lefties this year. The best hitters are all lefties that lose about 35 points off their averages.

Count me as another who didn't understand Westbrook being named opening day starter before PROVING ANYTHING.
Acta should have let Spring Training decide his opening day starter, which should have been Fabulous Fausto.
In fact, Justin Masterson should be the 2nd guy in the rotation, followed by Westbrook.

Royal...with all due respects, that's not what H &H were referencing. They spoke specifically on the grip of the ball. Like the other poster said, it's much easier to grip the ball when the humidity is high.royal_k wrote:Actually humidity makes the movement on the ball greater, making it harder to throw trikes. Westbrook entered the tribe record books for wild pitches...he also plunked 2 hitters.
I can understand Hammy making excuses like this...but not Hegan, who is a former player and knows the intricacies of the game.
