I've noticed there have been a couple Mods lately who have been moderating beyond the scope of the rules.

They have been either closing threads or hiding posts that are very questionable in nature, but don't actually break any rules... for example sleeper has been getting silenced lately for posts that don't break any rules.

His prayer thread comment and comment on ND player dying. While what he is doing and saying is disrespectful, it's perfectly fine according to the rules listed.

Another example is the "Shaun Rogers terrorist" thread over in pro sports. While it's a stupid thread and all, closing it because it's trolling? It doesn't break any defined rules.

This is the slope that we spoke about in beginning. Do we completely just mod according to rules or are judgement calls and personal preference used now?

Posts/threads like that contribute nothing to the site, all they do is encourage retarded bickering between retarded people.

But arbitrarily silencing people because you don't like what they have to say? I remember a lot of that on JJ and it's a bad road to travel down. Unless we can specifically word a rule to prevent that kind of behavior and is specific... I'd like to stay away from it.

The Sleeper comments were the "bad fellowship" issues I had mentioned before, that is a worse slippery slope than the one you fear. I've mentioned wanting a bad fellowship rule before, but you were the most outspoken against it.

Pretty easy to see what is going to happen with this one....doesn't take a rocket scientist.

Next comment will by a Browns fan and it will be calling Capone a fucking douchebag.

Capone will reply that the Browns organization is a joke and the guy is a terrorist.

Browns fan: Fuck you Capone, you are a piece of fucking shit.

ETC, ETC, ETC.

We have been down this road before.
PS...I opened it back up....I can use the entertainment

I agree with Fly4Fun. Unless we modify the rules I don't want to just arbitrarily close threads and delete posts.

I propose a rule against bad fellowship.

Then something needs to be done like LJ suggested. If not, br1986fb, Capone, Strapping Young Lad, and many others are just going to go off on each other in every sports thread.

Yes, it's easy to see where it will go. It's easy to tell what the purpose is of the people who do this.

But right now, the moderating being done is against the scope of the rules set forth... and it's starting to look like JJhuddle with very subjective rulings of what can and can't be said.

Yeah, but wouldn't starting shit stirring threads like Capone, Society be about the same?

Nah, I just think it needs to be on actual serious issues... deaths, family problems, actual problems, I'd say when Society was calling mirg fat that would probably fall in there.

Gotcha. I really could give a shit less about what these guys say, but I can almost guarantee that the pro sports and college sports will get shittier and shittier with Capone and SYL starting topics like this.....but I am about half in the bag so what do I know.

Calling mirg fat would fall under the personal rule, so you could get rid of that and give a warning based upon that.

Whatever happens I (we) are in a can't win situation. It's really fucking annoying that people can't act like adults.

This is true. But it's also a given that some people will continually try to push the boundaries no matter what.

If we can some how come up with a reasonable rule to some how exclude trolling while making it defined enough to enforce with as little subjectivity as possible I'd be all for it.

But this is the price you take for having a more open forum, you take the good with the bad.

He and Les Schear have teamed up now I'm sure. They will be merging soon enough. Together, they now have the funding to fight any legal battles that may ensue.
