No prob, Cthelites. I like a little organization from time to time.
Also, Thursday is a popular night. Add to it the number of clubs in the north end of town going on Tuesdays and Thursdays and someone up there might move. But until then, Thursday night it is.

While I think it's great that so many schools are giving Central Ohio wrestlers an opportunity to work out, I wish things were more consolidated. I'd much rather see 60 kids show up to one open mat then 15 show up to four.
When you look at the great open mats in Northeast Ohio: Solon, Wadsworth, Perry. People travel from all over to attend because they know they're going to get good competition and good numbers. That's guaranteed in those rooms. In Central Ohio, it's still a crap-shoot to have a decent three man group at a given open mat.
For that reason, I've always liked to pick one or two and promote the heck out of it in an attempt to increase numbers and improve the level of competition. I like a Sunday room. There isn't that much going on on a Sunday at 6:00, traditionally there aren't as many rooms running that night so there's very little conflict. Most Freestyle clubs run during the week rather than the weekend. It just seems to fit more kid's schedule.
So, long story short, I'll be heading over to Bishop Ready on Sundays and I hope to bring a group of 8-12 with me. Ready was a strong room last year, and I assume many of the wrestlers that made it a staple of their weekly rountine will be back again. I hope to see the old crew back there again, and hopfully a bunch of new faces as well.
See you all Sunday the 11th.
Hey Cruiser, once summer hits and I get another night of "free time", The Port will definately be part of the weekly routine.

Great to read, coach. I'll be trying my best to get to the opening night at Ready. Albeit a bit selfish here but would like to promote the Friday night tournament. However, I do hope to bring some guys with. me. Hope to see you then.

Bitter,
I agree with you as to getting off-season mat time and experience, it would be sweet to have a few packed houses so everyone can be pushed beyond their known limits. However, I see a lot of value in small group as well. Ex: The opportunity to take a few kids and really work on Greco technique can tremendously benefit them to become comfortable in situations they might not otherwise be--or might not explore in a more public setting.
Both have big pay-off next season and ideally, we'll have some of both for the kids.

GoldenBear...We're on the same page. I think when done properly, an off-season routine would include some sort of club and/or a couple of camps, consistant lifting and some road work and an open mat schedule that allows a young wrestler to test what they're learning at clubs and camps against unfamiliar competition.
Often times, a small open mat can become like a free club, where kids come to learn and drill. That kind of environment absolutely has its place in an off-season workout routine.

A great deal, and by that I mean A GREAT DEAL, of oppourtunities are opening up this week in the way of clubs, clinics and open mats.
If your goal is to be wrestling in March, placing at the state tournament or winning the whole thing, you might want to think about making one of the upcoming resources available to you. Good luck. Hope to see you then.

Yeah, I wish they would have posted their intentions earlier. Like I said, I love a SUnday open mat, and I would have been all over that one (half the drive for most of my guys). Unfortunately, I had already organized a group to make the trek to Ready this week when the Coffman announcement hit the web. If numbers are low at Ready this week, we'll try Dublin next week, but if numbers and competition is strong, it's hard to pass up a room that you know is going to be good.

The room at Dublin is very strong. About 30 - 40 wrestlers attend and 90% of them are SQ's or better. Most of them are the Ohio Team Strength wrestlers. Come on over from 6-7:30pm.
