Anyone holding out hope that Turner returns, might as well give it up. Something I didn't realize, that I just read...is that next spring, the NBA collective bargaining agreement comes to an end. There is already talk of a holdout...as well as cuts in the area of 30% for first round pics.
Turner, or anybody thinking of going pro, who has a chance of going in the first round, would be pretty stupid not to get in while the getting is good as things could change dramatically in 2yrs.

I completely agree wth you, but at the same time, if money was his motivating factor he probably would have left last year.

Hmmm, but he actually made himself money by staying another year. He went from a top 20 pick to a top 5 pick. Now its about not missing out on what is laid in front of you. 8 mill now, Or chance it and lose 30% of that? I see what your saying...but at some point commons sense has to tell you its not worth the risk to miss out when some major changes could be coming. I just think this changes quite a bit with those who can go in the first round.
UK may lose out on all of those thinking of coming out. Its just not worth taking that big of a cut IMO.

I agree. Turner definitely made the right decision in coming back.

If he would have went 14th last year he would have made $1.4, but by coming back and going #3 he'll make $3.2. Definitely made up for it with his play this year.

With that said, you almost want to tell him it would be a mistake to return to school. I know that it's his decision and he'll likely leave, but there really shouldn't be any question whether he leaves or not. It's a no brainer.

Many people thought that the looming possibility of the NFL lockout could trigger a rush of juniors and etc. declaring early for the NFL Draft. It didn't quite turn out that way. I still think Turner goes, but if he does decide to return, watch out.

NO, Seggerson is NOT, "that kid's" coach. "That kid" played against Seggerson's team in their OT win in the Regional Finals.

Having read your responses to my critique of OSU basketball, I will admit that it doesn't really make much sense to someone who loves the college game and isn't bothered by the revolving door of players in and out of the draft and the mystery of who has recruited better than the other guy this year so that your favorite team now has a one or two year chance to be #1, and it probably is a good description of just about every major college program out there, so I guess what I'm really saying is this is why I like high school basketball so much more. I don't dislike college basketball, I just don't like the means that must be used to attain the ends desired by the fans.

Don't disagree with this. And I don't like it anymore then you do. But I do love college ball. And ...it is what it is and is not likely to change. And, I have no control over it. Sometimes you have to accept things for what they are..even though you don't care for how its run.
And Matta has to do what he has to do. He has his philosophy, which is really no different then any other big time program coach. He is there to win, and try to get to the championship. To do that, you have to recruit the best of the best...which sometimes means they won't be there long. I am sure he, as well as any other coach doesn't like it either. But in this day and age...its how the game is played.

There really is no argument over that. Wow, a HS coach said he is better. That HS coach isn't coaching a B10 program now is he.

Craft will be very good for OSU, especially on the defensive end imo.

those thinking that the freshmen will not start, look at Michigan State this year. Garrick Sherman started most of the out of conference games early in the year for Izzo. Now the guy is putting in solid minutes in the National Semifinal today. Sherman certainly was not as highly recruited as any of OSU's top recruits. Izzo is still coaching and Matta is sitting at home watching, maybe some of the freshmen should start early next year?

Did Sherman start today? How many Big Ten games did Sherman start? Last year Michigan State graduated Suton, Ebok and Gray. Herzog has been a bust and Roe has bad Knees. MSU was desperate for a post player.

Would you rather start and play 10-15 minutes or come of the bench and play 25-30 minutes?

BTW Sherman averaged 7.2 minutes/game. WOW

I'm positive Sullinger AND Thomas will both play at least THREE TIMES Sherman's minutes next year, even if they don't start a single game.

Sherman might play fewer minutes next year if Roe has successful surgery and with Payne coming in.

Nix also started as a freshman, but Im not really sure I see the comparison to be honest.

OSU will have enough players that Matta will be able to play and start the best, most college ready players. He wont be forced to play freshman simply because they have the talent if they arent ready.

Of course, Sully and Thomas, imo, are better than any of the guys OSU has at their position and will start. The only thing that will keep it from happening are attitude and defense.

Sherman started 12 games, Nix started 16 games. Sherman averaged 7.2 minutes/game, Nix averaged 7.8 minutes/game. Izzo chose to start Sherman and Nix instead of Green who only stated 3 games, but averaged 25.5 minutes/game. Izzo obviously wanted a spark coming off the bench. Green was voted 6th man of the year in the Big Ten.

IT IS NOT IMPORTANT WHO STARTS!!! Just ask Izzo, the Big Ten coaching god.

Exactly my point with OSU next year. If Deibler continues to start..."some" on here will go ape shit. Who really cares...as you stated, its not that important when it comes down to it.

I will always be a Buckeye fan and naturally I would like to see them battling for a National Championship next season. I'm sure that Coach Matta will have an excellent team to put on the floor because he is an excellent coach and an excellent recruiter. Go Bucks!

Apparently Matta isn't done recruiting for next year. I was under the assumption that Turner's scholarship was already being used by one of the freshmen, but the Rumblings section of the Dispatch had this to say:
When Ohio State men's basketball coach Thad Matta said that he did not plan to offer Evan Turner's scholarship to any of the uncommitted point guards in the class of 2010, it appeared he was done recruiting for next season.

But that was before Cody Larson - a 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward from Sioux Falls, S.D., who signed with Iowa in November - was granted a release from his scholarship last week after the Hawkeyes replaced fired coach Todd Lickliter with Fran McCaffery. Larson is still considering Iowa, ESPN.com reports, but Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan, New Mexico, Florida, Wake Forest and Arizona State have jumped in.

Matta will reportedly visit Larson and his family Sunday, and Larson is expected to visit several schools. The spring signing period began Wednesday and ends May 19.

Don't know much, but if all of those are interested, the kid must have some talent. Matta has been after some "size" in the 2011 class. So now that this kid is available...why not go get it now.
Something that might play into this is Matta realationship with Lickliter, very good friends who coached together. That could certainly help.

As of right now any Cody Larson talk is just talk. He was let out of his LOI but it was not a full release. He cant go to another Big Ten school and be on scholarship.

BTW, he was a top 150, 3* talent. He has talent to be sure, but as is the case often with players who are available this late, they get offered by pretty much everyone who needs to fill a hole.
