This song, while we aren't in Dixie, just absolutely makes me yearn for the summer. Parking the truck under a field of stars on the top of a hill , bonfires, watching the deer at the end of the summer, listening to the red tails scream.... Somehow this song absolutely describes the slower, more relaxed portion of my life.

Garth might have been the best at moving country to a more pop status, but that's it.

Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Jerry Garcia (Old and In the Way, Garcia/Kahn, etc. stuff that was more country/bluegrass and less psychedelic) and many others are far better than a guy who became idolized because he took a genuine form of music and greatly assisted in making it generic and mainstream.

Shit, you find me a better song that the Cash, Nelson, Kristofferson, Jennings "Highwayman" and I'd be amazed.

^^^let me boil down RSP's post into the most comprehensive and best post on the subject to date.

As far as Garth Brooks goes...certainly a great entertainer...and an impressively big belt buckle, and the ability to stuff himself securely into jeans 2 sizes to small and pull it off...but, unfortunately, he is about as much country as Cher.
