Nerd or Geek ?
I never understood why people get twisted by such little meaningless points . I have seen this brought up over and over. Maybe they call it states because there are 3 State tournaments at once, 3 divisions. To each his own .

Three state tournaments and 3 state divisions with multiple weight class champions still equates to it being properly referenced as State.

It's been said incorrectly so long that it's being accepted as common which is sad.

It's not plural. There's only one state. It's not possessive in the context that people use it.

Noting it being used incorrectly is hardly getting twisted. That's a bit of an exaggeration. There's no twisting here. If it's not a big deal, which I don't think it is, why not choose to say it correctly? That's what I don't understand.

Maybe it's just easier to follow the crowd at chow time...no matter where they lead!

What if I am referring to the Division 1 state tournament, the division 2 state tournament and the division 3 state tournament as a group of state tournaments? Wouldnt that be "states"?

Back in the day, the "d3" event was help in a different location, making it two seperate events...thus "states".

You would refer to it as state tournaments or tournaments. The tournaments are plural not the State or adjective.

But if you use "state" as a nickname then you could also use "states" as a nickname for all 3 combined. Rarely does anyone refer to it in casual conversation as the "state tournament". You hear "state" or "states".

uhhhh, that's the point of the poll. State is the nickname of all three combined. It is short for the Ohio State Wrestling Championships or the Ohio State Wrestling Championship Tournaments.

The noun is plural in every case.

Seeing how you are from the "Show Me State" how about we just show you instead of voting?

On another note, at the top of the final coaches poll in each of the respective divisions was Wadsworths in D-1, St. Paris' in D-2 and Monroevilles in D-3. St. Edwards is hopeful they have a better tournament team than a dual squad and can get past the Grizzlies in Columbus'.

Are you sure you didn't mean to post that since you don' t "mind" you are going to proceed to make a poll on whether one would choose common sense or intellectualism?

In all seriousness...best of luck this weekend. These are truly special events.

in the youth and m.s. events you can be a state champ in Ourway and a state champ in OAC. if you win them both does this mean you are state champs or states champ or even states champs?

either way the highschool boys wrestling this weekend are trying to qualify to the STATE TOURNAMENT! and good luck to all!
