Knowing only the score, in what way did the U.S. have their head up their ass?
Looked sluggish at times ... a few lazy passes. Despite dominating in shots and time of possession, struggled to get quality scoring opportunities. Power play looked anemic, couldn't keep it in the zone for more than 5 or 10 seconds at a time. Hiller was good but I don't think he did anything above and beyond what an NHL goaltender should be expected to do. We didn't test him enough.

It wasn't end of the world but there is no way the team can play like that against a quality opponent and expect to win. Miller is great, but even he got some luck today as the Swiss rang a few off posts (and one that was really, really close to going in).

I hope Russia wins too! The Canadian fans are assholes and have been hating on our athletes in not just hockey but just about every other event too. I also think beating Canada twice at home is almost impossible.

US survived today and must find a way to help Miller out more now that they will play a much better team on Friday. Finland or the Czechs will hammer us if we continue to not do anything on the power play and turn the puck over as poorly as we have been. Guys like Kane need to step up their game and deliver better performances for the US to play for gold on Sunday. Already assured of playing for at least bronze but at this point, after beating Canada and going unbeaten, not getting to final on Sunday would be a disappointment.

As far as the fans rooting for Switzerland.

Seriously....what do you expect? Neutral fans ALWAYS root for the underdog. Check out any first round NCAA tourney game when the underdog, a big one at that, is close or winning alte in the game. Those neutral fans start rooting for the underdog.

The Canadians would be out for blood if there's a rematch in the gold medal game. They'd probably get it, too, but that's a bridge we'll cross when we get to it.

I read on espn.com that's there's an anti-US sentiment among Canadian fans at alot of other venues besides hockey. They're pissed because this was suppose to be their "break out" Olympic games. I can't remember what they called their program leading up to theses olympics but they fully intended to challenge us and win 20+ medals...........well, it hasn't happened.

I agree, it will be a monumental task to beat them twice on their home ice. Although, USA won't be intimidated, the Russians were clearly intimidated from the drop of the puck, even Ovechkin was getting his ass kicked.

The liklihood of a rematch became much more likely after Sweden got eliminated last night. I just don't see Slovakia beating Canada but Sweden could have certainly beaten them imo.

"Own the podium" I believe is what it was called. Read about it last weekend. They spend extra millions and millions of dollars of support on those they felt had good chances of medalling.

They just had too much pressure with the buildup I assume..kinda like the "Dan vs...who was that other guy.....in the summer olympics. Touting which is the best athlete in the world. Neither won gold and one failed to get past the qualifing round if i remember right.

I just meant we shouldnt be surprised they want other countries to win. We are T H E top dog in the world, the most talked about and they probably get sick of hearing about the US all the time.

That's it, "Own the Podium". LOL, they may not even "own" their national sport by the end of these games.

US is quietly catching up. Personally I htink canada wins a rematch...but US is reigning champ in I think three of the Jr leagues (U17, U18, U20) and I think two of those were won in Canada.

Canada has the bigger names...but somethings that isnt enough.

Was R.J Umberger ever invited to Team USA? He was at OSU when I was there and it seemed like him and Kesler were the best players on that team, I know hes with the Jackets now kind of surprised he isn't on Team USA.

From what I've heard, Kelser/Umberger don't get along.

This is coming down to a US/Canada gold medal game.

I didn't say anything about them getting along just saying they both seemed to be great players at OSU(both NHLers now) and both young and from the US

Well cancel one out, Canadian women beat the US women 2-0 for the gold, they own women's hockey for now.
