he was having a good game before the eminent injury. he's a good player when he's healthy (which is almost never).

Can we finally put to rest that the PER rating is not the best way to determine who is a better player like so many people think??

Safe to say yes. It is a credit to how well Oden is capable of playing, but thats definitely a flaw in that system.

Right. I think if he could stay healthy and continue to improve the sky is the limit. Unfortunately, the injuries keep getting him; I'm not really surprised though. Most bigs(7 footers) have trouble staying healthy.

Yeah. I honestly haven't given up on him yet, I think he can still come back and be a good player. Time will tell, he'll obviously have to stay healthy but he just had bad luck--I think he's paid his dues. I'd like to see him get on the court, it'd be a shame to see that career wasted.

I really hope so too SQ. I met him while he was at OSU and he seemed like a really good guy.

Shouldn't this tell you what a bullshit stat "PER" is?

It's not a bullshit stat. Obviously, when Oden was healthy he was playing at a high level. I guarantee if Kobe was leading PER(he never will because he's just not that good), Laker fans would be touting it as the greatest thing ever.

Only John Hollinger could find a way to list a player higher than Kobe who played in 21 games this year,24 minutes per game and averaged 12/8/1.

Us Laker fans will use the Larry O'Brien Trophy and the Bill Russell Award as the Rating, Not some nerd in High School who came up with a bogus formula.

John Hollinger knows the game, but his systems are trash..

It was evident when the Cavs were rolling and actually dropped from #1 to #2...

The team that went to #1? Utah.. Following their loss to LA..

Makes perfect fucking sense. He needs to either tweak that shit or get rid of it all together.

Sleeper, I can't decide if you honestly believe this or you're just fucking around to jerk the likes of skyhook, however, I will bite.

PER is bullshit. How do I know? Because it ranks GREG FUCKING ODEN above Kobe Bryant.

I mean, I get that Kobe isn't "all that good" and stuff, but are you kidding me? Greg Oden over Kobe Bryant? Is there any GM in the league, that if they had the choice, would take Greg Oden over Kobe Bryant? No.

That's why PER is complete horseshit. Does anybody even know what goes into PER? No, they don't. They're just like HIS PER IS SO HIGH. HE IS SO GOOD.

Sabremetrics in basketball is bullshit.

Another example. Basketball Prospectus released a list of the best defenders in the NBA (http://www.basketballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=918).

Kobe Bryant is number 2. Ron Artest is 11. And LAMAR ODOM is in 14th.

Now, I watch the Lakers. Sorry, Kobe Bryant, at age 31, is no longer one of the best defenders in the league. I don't care what the stats say---I watch the game. The fact that Lamar Odom is in the Top 15 of this list tells me what a crock of shit it is.

I bet Portland is kicking themselves in the ass for not taking Durant. I feel bad for Greg but he's a injury waiting to happen.

I love it. If Kobe (the rapist) Bryant was #1 on here, you same cum stains who are bitching would be posting this on here yourselves trying to bait some Cavs fan.
