What happened in the 130-pound final between Kunzi and Taylor? Wasin close and Taylor got caught, or did Kunzi dominate?

Kunzi was pushing the whole match and had him turned multiple times before getting the pin

Actually, Taylor hit 4 shots and was pushing the match as Kunzi was defending, Taylor hit his first high crotch lifted for a double and got chin whipped and caught for 4. Taylor got out, took kunzi down, 4-3, kunzi takes injury time. Rides him out. 2nd period Taylor takes down gets out, tied 4-4. Kunzi hits low single, Taylor tries to "funk" gets caught and stuck. The match was tied 4-4. taylor was only turned once before he was pinned. It was a tight match.

I was there and saw the match, Kunzi was non offensive. Taylor was shooting for high crotches. got caught once, made it 4-0, taylor comes back and makes it 4-4 still pushing the match, kunzi catches him in some funk and taylor doesnt gt out. Early in the first kunzi called for injury time directly after he was taken down, he looked gassed. either way, he still got the pin. But Kunzi most definately was not pushing the action, Taylor went after him

Tournament was well run! Officials did a good job! Concession stand worthy of praise! Oh yeah, restrooms clean and as "pleasant" as you could expect. Still don't understand how waterless urinals work..but they do seem to work so I'll just leave it at that!

My family has had a very good experience the last two tournaments at Watkins!

LOL! Water less urinals! That is classic!

As for the Kunzi and Taylor match. It was close and it was 4-4 and Kunzi hit that signature 3 quarter stack. I don't know how he does it, but he sets it up good and kids who know how to stop it, just cant. He road that move all the way to the state tournament last year.

CLASSIC!!! I really expected the standard, "I'm amazed that two people can see the same thing and walk away with different views" speech. Way to change it up, coach.

Duckme's version is correct. Both wrestlers were in trouble at various times. Taylor was very aggressive until he got caught. Very exciting match but in no way, shape or form was Kunzi dominating Taylor. With the exception of one bopping error that let a match go an extra 15 seconds, I agree that this was one of the best run, most efficient tourneys I have been at this year. Didn't hurt that my kid qualified for Districts either [after only winning 5 matches total last year] :D

Congratulations to the Watkins wrestlers who move on: Boehm, Kunzi and Giffin. Honorable mention to our alternate at 112 (big incentive to come back stronger next year). Great job, kids.

Also, good job to the parents/fans. If there was any stupid stuff going on in the stands, I missed it.

Finally, give a shout-out for the setup crew! Those mats were straight! :D

It was a very well run and organized tournament, but they have been doing it for 20 some odd years, so they should be good at it!

What? I didn't pin him in the three quarter.......I didn't even try the three quarter once during the match with taylor, But he wrestled well, and i wrestled a little more defensively and waited for a mistake which is how i ended up pinning him. And as for the injury time i tried to roll him backwards from an underhook and I went straight back and landed flat on the back of my head.

Kunzi- sorry buddy from accross the gym and looking over peoples heads I thought I saw you use your signature move. My mistake.

Ontheline- Im not sure where he was for the finals. There were 2 refs with grey hair. There was one skinnier and short and one taller and fat. The one that is taller and fatter with slicked back grey hair. He was terrible. He called an illegal slam on Orr from TV in the match to go against Brofford from MV, It was a bear hug, not a slam. His justification was that the MV kids back hit the mat first. If that was the case then head and arms, latteral drops, foot sweeps, etc. would be illegal slams. He cost Orr district qualification in my opinion.

Earlier in the day Leidecker was wrestling the UA kid. Take him down, throws the boots, power half cranks it up and gets his 5 count, bellys the kid out, and once he is bellyed out gets a jacobs hook and turns him, gets his 5 count and flattens the kid out. Kid crawls off the mat out of bounds. I look at the score and relize it should have been 3 more on the board. I ask the ref and he said no. I ask him why and he says because when he rolled him over to transition to the next move he did not give him a chance to defend himself. Now correct me if I am wrong but, When you flat a kid out, and break contact of the move you just had and go to something else then turn him, its a new move and a new count, which results in another "new" set of backs! And when I questioned his judgement he looked at me and said, "You don't wana go there!" He was a douche.

I even watched him in other matchs with other kids. Not just TV kids. He was never consistent with pins and takedown calls! If memory serves me correctly he was on mat 2 the most. Anyways ontheline, that is the guy and that is my observation of his horrible referee abilities!

He was wrestling in the quarter finals and injured his knee again. It was pretty bad, I was watching the match waiting for one of kids to warm up and I heard it pop. You could tell from his face that he was in alot of pain.

I think he did the smart thing by wrestling the semis match and dflt ing to 2nd. Hopefully the knee gets better this week and wont bother him too much. He is my pick to win the district. Very tough kid.
