Anyone watch Uconn get ripped off by the refs? Its tied up with 35 seconds to go and Syracuse shoots the ball and misses and Uconn gets the rebound.....then the ref gives Syracuse a timeout, after the UConn rebound. UConn should of had the ball with 35 seconds and a chance to win, but instead Syracuse gets the ball and wins.

And also, get Texas and Michigan State out of the polls, at least out of the top 20.

Michigan State is still a top 20. Texas probably not.

Boeheim was pleading with the official for a timeout as soon as Jardine got the ball and that was clearly before the shot. The ref was just a little late blowing the whistle. As Fraschillia said.....had the shot by Jardine went in....it would not have counted.

MSU might fall to 15. I expect Texas out of the top 20 after the loss to KU. I didn't see that part of the game, but if that did happen that sucks for UConn.

A. They werent ripped off. I am an official. You hear the TO and see with your eyes if the player has possession. A second can go by before you register to blow the whistle. It doesnt matter, you can still grant it....you just have a bit of explaining to do to the other coach:D. SAME situtation as a lot of tie-ups. People get made when TO is granted when the ball is in duel possession, when in fact, when the ref granted the TO (When he heard the call for one and saw the play, NOT when the whistle was blown) the possession was with a single team.

B. MSU is still a top 10 team imo. They win at least their last 2 games with Lucas and are sitting at 21-4 if thats the case. His injury killed that team for the time he was out (albeit a short time), they still got hammered by the injury.

Exactly. Only a Big Ten hater wouldn't recognize this. ;)

It was a terrible call.
Jardine got the ball, dribbled out to the point and then began to drive. That is when Boeheim began to approach the official. Boeheim had his hands up not signaling for a timeout. Boeheim the left the view of the camera as Jardine shot the ball. UConn grabbed the ball, and then the whistle was blown. Should have been UConn ball.

Only a big 10 homer wouldnt realize they arent top 20 material. THREE losses in a row and a drilling from Purdue with Lucas playing. MSU has ONE win vs. a top 25 team, pitiful:P

You realize you can yell "timeout" right?? You don't have to signal it with your hands.

I know, but just because he is yelling foe a T.O. doesn't mean that the ref is going to hear him.
They are showing the play on ESPN right now.

If it was "that big" of a rip off, the UConn coach would have gone a little nuts. Not just shaking his head in agreement and walking back to the bench.

Boeheim was looking straight at the official (and standing pretty close to him I might add) and screaming for a timeout as soon as Jardine got the ball at the top of the key. Obviously the ref did hear him and granted him the timeout.

As wildcats said, Blaney didn't seem to mind that much either.

As I said before. If the referee heard the TO call and SAW that Jardine still had possession its the right call. The TO is granted AS SOON as the ref hears the request. As I stated (and ESPN confirmed it) the call has NOTHING to do with when the whistle is blown.

Is a ball not out of bounds when it hits the line and is consequently grabbed by a player inbound just because a ref was late to blow the whistle or because he dropped it out of his mouth for a second??

I mean, quit trying to act as if the ref saw the UCONN guy get possession and said "Fuck that, I like Cuse more. Im giving them a TO and the ball even though I didnt hear it called and they didnt have possession."

Go read the rule book.....The ref correctly administered the interpretation of the rule. A coach is granted a timeout when his/her player is still in possession of the ball. Although Jardine was in the air about to shoot, Boeheim still called the TO while Jardine was in possession of the basketball. Not to mention, Boeheim had begun calling for the timeout before Jardine was in the air. Laley makes a great point....when a coach is calling for a timeout, some time obviously passes for the ref to hear the call, register what he hears, and then blow the whistle to grant the TO. With what is stated in the rule book, the ref absolutely got this call right. Did it look the best? Absolutely not and he probably upset a lot of fans, players, and coaches.....BUT, he did get the call right.

I don't think it was that big of a deal. UConn still had a chance to win the game & missed.

The right call was made by the ref. If the Orange end up being on the opposite end of a situation like that at some point....you won't see me complaining about it if it's the right call.

I had more of a problem with the foul call after the timeout. Kind of a tickey tackey call imo.

On that play, the clock ran even though the foul was called before the ball was inbounded. It took 3 seconds off of the clock, not that it would have made a huge difference, but it could have.

Different sport, but, in football if they have 12 players on the field........the coach or a player runs up to the ref asking for timeout...........sometimes they get it while other times they get a flag. Why is that? They are most of the time (clearly) telling the ref before hand they want a timeout.

If you're talking about the foul on Wesley Johnson.....the Uconn player (I think it was Gavin Edwards) had a handful of jersey and you could clearly see the jersey being pulled away from Johnson's body. It's kinda hard not to call that when it's so obvious and it wasn't like he grabbed it for a split second and let it go either.
