Interesting Lebron question

This was on the website WFNY....pretty simple....two options...

1. Cavs win a title, then lose Lebron to free agency

2. Lebron resigns for another 5 yrs....no guarantee of any title.

Which option do you prefer?

I love lebron, but I've loved the cavs longer and would trade my favorite player for my team to get a title.

Without Lebron, the Cavs become irrelevant and hurt not only the organization, but Cleveland as a whole.

In the smart economical decision, and to actually want to watch our in state team, I'll pick Lebron resigning and no championship.

^^It's not a guaranteed "no championship" if he stays....that's the catch.

Take the guaranteed title and lose him, or roll the dice with him every year for the next 5.

For me, I think we get both...title in 2010, he resigns and wins 2 more in the next 5 seasons. Three titles by age 31.

Option 2... there is no way the Cavs have LeBron during the peak of his career (5 more years) and not win AT LEAST 1... probably more.

Also, do people understand what no LeBron means to Cleveland as a whole?

Title.

On any of my favorite teams i would gladly choose a title then lose the best player to FA than resigning them without a guarentee of a title. Players come and go, even ones as good as TKFA, but the franchise was there before, and will be after as wel.

And winning the title......that is attractive to other players wanting to go so maybe they arent down for long.

Surprisingly the Cavs existed before 2003 much to the chagrin of most NBA followers. I want to get one for Z, he is the Cavs second best player EVER (behind LBJ) and this season may/will be his last shot. With Gilbert at owner there won't be another dark age like we experienced pre-LBJ. And if LBJ leaves, Gilbert won't leave with Quicken, his new rival to ticketmaster, and the 2012 casino all based in Cleveland.

I find it interesting in a city that is starving for a championship that they would choose the second option. Ya all would rather have 5 yrs of a player with no guarentee's than one last year with him and a TITLE?

Ive never really understood the rationale of cleveland sports fans.

its extremely difficult to win a title. Probably a good chance if he resigns for five years ya still dont win one.

but then again....im the one who would accept a 75k offer on Deal or No deal even if the big prizes are still on the board. Id rather have something....than possibley nothing.

I find it interesting that an economy struggling like Ohio's and specifically Cleveland, and one of the most coveted athletes in the world would trade a title for losing Lebron.

Even if the Cavs never win a title with Lebron, he creates thousands of memories and brings attention to Cleveland. Without him, the Cavs are a bottom feeder and will never attract any free agents.

Lebron is great no doubt, but players come and go......but I will always be a Cavs fan.

Losing him doesnt mean they would HAVE to be a bottom feeder. They were damn good for a time butj ust ran into Jordan those years.

They want a title so bad yet would give up a guarenteed one....and still have the possibility of more if they sign the right other players.

Obviously by the poll i am in the minority.

Im a steelers fan. Ben is that whole team basically, . How ben goes, the steelers go. He may not be the top 2-3 player in the league like TKFA but he is the main cog, a superstar and probably his best years ahead of him

If there was a guarentee they win the SB next year, and then he leaves via free agency OR not win it next year and he resigns....im still goin with 'give me the title'. Maybe its because I have confidence the franchise wont be down forever..and that if they won it all they must have good enough pieces that another player can come in and still have the team competitive and even possibly still win it all.

Personally, i always root for the name on the front of the jerseys, and not the back.

but that is just me.

I don't think it's that easy in this age of the NBA. Every team that wins a title will have one of the "Superstars" and if Lebron leaves, what makes you think a star is going to ever sign in free agency with the Cavs, and you would have to hope for a good draft to get back on track.

And I hope everyone knows which option Gilbert would take. The Cavs as a franchise are probably worth 3X more with Lebron than compared to without.

If they win it all.....and he leaves...why would a superstar sign with the cavs then?

Plus its not like our bench is full of Jeff McInnis and Ira Newble. We have solid role players on the team, a great practice facility, an owner/organization committed to winning (he'll be in Cleveland a long time, that franchise worth 3X is nothing compared to his impending casino revenue) and willing to pay luxury tax. Sure the whether sucks but our cupboard isn't bare.

Remember when Stackhouse and Grant Hill left/were traded from Detroit and they thought the return for them was piss poor yet that was the core of their championship team. I know we would get nothing in return if LeBron left but with the guys we will still have under contract and who we could sign (Rudy Gay) with his contract off the books, the Cavs would still be a playoff team.

That is crazy. Free agents flock to the most money....it is pretty simple. If the Cavs overpay, like they did to Larry Hughes, they can sign people. Money talks.

I do agree with the value of the franchise with/without Lebron, but like I said before, players come and players go....
