Woah!! Thats big. Anyone know why that opened up? I'm sure the coach that was there left because of personal reasons after the year they had, but I could be wrong. Be one great gig to walk into for anyone

That was a very good group of seniors that Pick North had this year...might be a while before they have a group like that one.

Did Orange find a coach yet ?

Central District Coach's Association meeting is next week, so if Orange hired anyone we would know then. Haha, I wonder if Harris took over at Orange?

Columbus Beechcroft has been vacant for 1 year already...in fact, if someone wanted to resurrect that program, they might even be eligible for district funds that are allocated for "starting a new sports team" but I'm not sure entirely sure about that part - would definitely be worth looking into if someone has a heart for helping City League kids

Not always, you just need a PAV certification, which requires you to take and pass the NFHS coach's course, First Aid/CPR, Concussion class/testing, pupil activity cpr which is more geared towards sports injuries, and pass a FBI/BCI background check.

Canal has a good demographic for wrestling. They should be able to be good over time. They are in pretty sad shape right now, so it will take some time to rebuild.

Injuries and kids quitting really decimated the team last year.

I'm not at all surprised by this, that job wasn't posted until September last year and when I saw he took over I told my dad I bet he's doing a 1 and done just so they could have a team this past year and give the school time to look for someone more permanent this next season. Props to Coach Burgess for coming out of retirement to do this for year.

Anyone on staff at Canal to take over the program? They have teaching openings such high school English, Middle School English, Middle School gym, and 4th and 5th grade so they should be able to bring someone in and maybe an assistant coach too.

Anyone on staff at Pickering North that could take over the program?

Any division II or division III openings to discuss?

A little disappointed about the lack of chatter or speculation about these openings. The football forum is much more enjoyable to read about coach openings. Are wrestling fans just not as passionate as football?

That or we just don't know. Unless you're st ed, graham, or one of those programs wrestling doesn't get the big write ups discussing who is leaving and who might come in. Plus, central Ohio is starting to get more young guys in coaching you are staying longer. That and we're a winter sport, some guys maybe haven't decided to leave, some are applying to these current openings which may open up others.

To the question about canal, I doubt they have someone on staff interested or Nick Burgess wouldn't have come out of retirement to do it. Pick North situation, Brad Harris says he's only taking a break and after a year or two will get back into coaching at Pick North again or somewhere else. If he's wanting to go back to North, not sure in what capacity and how well that will go over with potential new hire that you are only interim unless Brad decides he wants to go elsewhere.

To the point of DII and DIII, I have not heard of any openings as of yet, and in my experience with those, unless they're a major program year in and year out, you don't hear of the openings until they have someone in mind or not until mid to late summer when it's crunch time. Not to slam Columbus City, but DIII is a lot like that in that it's sometimes hard to get people who are interested/qualified to do it because of location. Plus, not everyone has the time and patience to build a program and those smaller schools because it's almost every year you're having to build the numbers to even have a team.

Liberty Union, a DIII school in Baltimore, Ohio( about 7 miles east of Pickerington) will be looking for a new head coach for the 2015-2016 year. I'm pretty sure there are openings at ther high school and middle school. We have a strong returning group. Hard workers, listen well, want to be successful and just a good/fun bunch. The wrestling room has 2 full mats down and the weight room is right next door. I will be getting both knees replaced next fall and just felt the time is right. A difficult decision, to say the least. Been almost 30 years coaching, kinda need a break. Thank you to all over the years, the wrestling community is second to none
