Now, lets talk about the tournament..... Great Job to Coach Nicola and staff. Excellent facility. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot remember a tournament with such poor officiating, I do not believe there could be a single person in that gym that would disagree. You just come to accept in Central Oh. that you are going to have a poor official or two at a tournament but this really took the cake... All of them were horrible. The crowd influenced calls, I think during the 145 lb. finals match someone had to wake the assistant ref up to get involved in an obvious bad locking hands call, several times you could tell that a ref was making calls to make up for bad previous calls. I believe the rest of central Oh. yesterday should thank Olentangy Orange for occupying four problems for the day that they would not have to deal with.
Don't take this as a sour grapes post because there were none that affected me or my wrestler negatively, but this is from observation throughout the day........

Central Ohio officials need a way to be evaluated.........

Awful harsh to condemn all 4 refs and central Ohio officiating in general.
The 1 reffing the 145 finals did have his struggles yesterday, but the assistant ref in that match corrected the issue and the right call was made. I can't say that I saw any bad calls from the ref who corrected that call, nor would I say he had to be woken up - it was just that the coach was out of his seat protesting faster than a rocket lifts off. (not that the coach wasn't correct to do so.) The other two refs had a questionable moment or two during the course of a long day, but nothing worse than what I saw this year at Brecksville or North Canton or any other tournament anywhere. I don't recall any match that was decided at Orange on a questionable call. (As corroborated by your admission that there were "none that affected (you or your) wrestler negatively".)
These refs were four humans doing the best they could on a long day, at a tough and thankless job for little pay.

Toprani was at 135 last year, where he was 3rd in sectional (D2) and 1-2 at districts.

I was impressed with East's 135 lber. He looked pretty consistent the whole day.
As far as the tournament goes, I thought it was run very well. Big shout out to the orange boosters for Olive Garden in the Coaches room. (I love the salad!)
Nice Job Chachi Nicola. If we can only get The Critic, Jon Lovitz to come with his squad it could be special!!

I agree. The East 135# was looking good. The Boyd kid from MF was great to watch, the kid is solid all around and a pleasure to watch. Settles from HT looks good at Hvwy. Beatty looked great and will only get sronger as his conditioning comes along.Settles really surprised me and should go deep into the district and maybe get out to the Schott this year.

Overall the tourny was ran great. I will agree with allah , the 1 ref belonged in the JH or JV arena for awhile longer. He was flat out horrible at times.

And no, my kid did not lose a match because of his work, just seen him cost several other kids a close match during the meet.

Tymar Walls (135 from East) is a tough kid. He wrestled my son twice last year, both matches went into OT. Kid has no quit in him. Congrats on the 1st place finish.
