This has good reviews but it's very cheap. Is it too cheap?

I read some Amazon reviews on the President model, a few people mentioned its not the same quality as other Pfluegers. The best review was for the small ultra light President model for crappie.

Instead of wasting your money on that ugly little iron fence in your back yard you could have stepped up and got the Shimano Stradics model.

;) (just messin')

You were using basically the lure I was talking about without the under - spin. The spinner blade creates vibrations which both largemouth and smallmouth detect through their lateral sensory nodes when searching for prey.

Gotcha. I can't complain, they were cheap as hell and we caught plenty of fish with them.

meh' How often are you really going to go fishing? Would you rather save $20-$30 bucks and still have a decent reel?
If so then sure go for the shimano syncopate.

I like the Sahara because it can be (either) left or right hand. No idea if you can switch the side of the handle on the Syncopate.

You can switch the handle on virtually all reels anymore.

What do you think of this rig? I wouldn't pay $100 for it, but would it be worth offering $75?

Yo Justin - If wanting to possibly save a few bucks - Craigslist Wilmington - too far to drive?

http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/for/4620189312.html

7'6'' MH Field and Stream Tech Spec ELITE rod with Shimano Sonorra reel. $65

If both are in good shape its not too bad of a deal (imo).

A couple co-workers and I are going fishing/camping on Saturday down in Daniel Boone National Forest. The plan now is to stop at the Field & Stream in Kentucky on our way down and get something. The shitty thing is Field & Stream does not have an online store to check out their inventory beforehand.

^Some fun reading. I like casting. Hook yourself up with some bad ass artificial lures.

We are heading to Cave Run Lake. The plan is to get there around noon or so and start fishing. The rest of the day will depend on how the fish are biting, but at some point we will hike into the forest to find a decent camping spot for the night.

Ended up grabbing a $40 Abu Garcia combo at Field and Stream on the way down. I didn't notice when I bought it, but it has a $10 rebate as well, so it will only cost $30 in the end. That will give me a usable rig and a future backup, and gives me more time to find a good deal on a decent rod and reel.

Give us a report on the fishing. I've heard Cave Run has stripers too, is that correct?

The fishing sucked, but by the time we actually got there and found a camping spot along the water were kinda stuck at that one spot. We did not end up on the main lake.

Bought this bag today at Field & Stream. It was on sale for $29.99 and I had a $10 cash card so I got it for $20. Not bad.
