Here's my question. I'm in a deep and competitive 12 team keeper league, and I'm trying to decide between my keepers. We can keep up to 8 players, and here are the guys I have it boiled down to: Clayton Kershaw, Jose Fernandez, Cole Hamels, David Ortiz, Jason Kipnis, Troy Tulowitzki, David Wright, Justin Upton, Matt Kemp, Adam Jones, and Josh Donaldson.

Kershaw and Fernandez I would easily keep two of the best pitchers in baseball. After that I like Kemp and couldn't really decided on a 4th so I just voted for Ortiz lol.

Im a huge fantasy baseball guy but…..

What type of league? Roto, H2H? Whats the scoring? Basic 5x5? Type of lineup/roster?

Going on pure value it should be everyone except for Ortiz, Donaldson, and Kipnis. Those other 8 should leave you with a very solid foundation.

It is a standard 5x5 H2H league. I will probably end up keeping Kipnis as his value is great (I would keep him as a 9th round pick). I definitely have some solid options though. I guess it's a good problem to have.

Thanks for your input, @birddog23

Kipnis over Hamels? I'd be ok with that, and it still leaves you with two studs in Kershaw and Fernandez.

Kemp, Tulo, and Wright are all injury concerns but they are very hard to not keep.

Wright, Kershaw, Turlo, Jones if you can only keep 4. If you can keep 8, Wright, Kershaw, Turlo, Jones, Fernandez, Kemp, Ortiz, Kipnis

This is VERY close to what I was thinking. The one variation I am pondering is not keeping Kemp and keeping Hamels instead, simply because that would give me 3 stellar SP's, and I feel like OF's are fairly easy to find on the waiver wire during the course of a season and later in the draft. However, Kemp's potential is incredibly tempting. If he ends up in Boston, I might have to keep him because of the potential around him. Definitely glad to be in the position I am with too many good keepers in a 12-team league.

I'm guessing that you'd give up later picks for Kipnis and Donaldson so hence those 2. Tulo due to weakness at SS. Kemp doesn't have a team yet and has had too many injuries for me to want to keep. I think Ortiz is due to regress, and Upton probably isn't worth giving up the higher pick when you have Donaldson.

Yeah, here are the rounds I could keep the players at and for the number of years I could keep them. First off, we can keep players anywhere from 1-3 years on a contract. Choosing 1 year does not impact the round; however if you keep a player 2 years, it bumps their round up 1 round, and 3 years bumps the round up 2 rounds. i.e. Drafted Kenley Jansen in the 13th round. If I keep him 1 year, it would count as a 13th round pick. A 2 year contract, and he would count as a 12th round pick. 3 years, and he would count as an 11th round pick. If multiple players allot to the same round, the first player drafted occupies the round, moving each additional player back a round.

Troy Tulowitzki (1 year, 1st round value) Round 1
Matt Kemp (1 year, 1st round value) Round 2
Clayton Kershaw (2 years, 1st round value) Round 3
Cole Hamels (2 years, 2nd round value) Round 4
David Wright (2 years, 2nd round value) Round 5
Adam Jones (1 year, 5th round value) Round 6
David Ortiz (1 year, 7th round value) Round 7
Jason Kipnis (2 years, 9th round value) Round 9
Jose Fernandez (3 years, 15th round value) Round 15

I basically have my keepers narrowed down to these 9, essentially deciding between keeping Kemp or Hamels. You guys might also enjoy taking a look at our off-season league page. This league is by far the best league I've been a part of. https://sites.google.com/site/allstarfantasysports/home There is even an updated rankings page that has another sites updated rankings embedded into the site. Pretty slick!
