Ill give Farmer a long leash. His eye for talent over the years, IMO, has
earned it for himself

The roster he had a large hand in building in Kansas City. A lot of those guys were obvious (Eric Berry), but a lot of guys on that team were risky/unknown/etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy he's the GM and have faith in the long run he'll help improve the talent base, but he hasn't been THE guy anywhere yet. If his first 2 moves as GM are cutting DQ and Rubin I'm less than impressed so far. He better be working on keeping Mack/Ward/Haden.

Cutting DQ over a $4million dollar roster bonus is ridiculous. Good luck getting a starting caliber ILBer that's better than DQ for less than $4 million. If he can do it, great! But I think we all know that's not going to happen.

I don't know whether to agree or disagree. He obviously needs to replace DQ, but I'm not sure going young, even if unproven, isn't the best way. You need youth in the NFL. DQ was declining and not a playmaker.

This. DQ is not a starting caliber mlb anymore. As much as I loved the guy it is what it is and it needed to happen. So far farmer has cut dead weight and is trying to work on extensions for the core players. IMO that's the best way to build this team. Get rid of the dead weight replace with younger cheaper equally or more productive players. And lock up the core players

Agreed. DQ was 41st among ILBs on PFF and getting older. He's the type of guy I'd like to have for passing situations, but not at that money.

It wasn't just 4M, his cap number this year was 9M+, so they saved 5M+.

He was fine in coverage (25th) but terrible against the run (48).

It kinda makes sense when you combine the numbers with the tape. As someone said earlier, DQ had a bunch of tackles but they were all downfield, similar to AJ Hawk (who finished 52/55 against the run). It makes sense when you look at the ILBs who finished near the top against the run, they're all guys who make plays at the LOS: Brandon Spikes, Kuechly, Willis, Cushing, and Tulloch.

+1 get rid of dead weight instead of signing dead weight like we have done in the last 10 years.

Exactly. I honestly love what farmer is doing so far. Does it suck to see those guys go? Yeah but at the same time if they can't produce get rid of them especially bc of their contracts.

Wouldn't be upset with them cutting Rubin, just like wasn't upset for them cutting DQ.

They can find a replacement for DQ, at league minimum pricing, and still be just as productive.

With Packers having difficulty locking up CB Sam Shields prior to market opening, I'd expect the Browns to be among his chief suitors

Sam Shields would be a solid pickup, pretty young too, if memory serves.

That would definitely be an upgrade on Skrine. I'd be alright with it assuming the contract is reasonable...

Pick him up.

Also, I'm thinking we need Watkins/QB with our first round. Pairing him with Gordon and Cameron will give our offense a dynamic aspect. Thoughts?

I'd be ok with Watkins at 4, as long as the QB the team is targeting is off the board.

Pass on Watkins. He will be good, but name the last team with two super star WRs to win a SB. That's not a model that wins titles.

Thats a good point.

I can't really think of one either.

True, but how many teams have 1 of their star WR one strike away from a lengthy suspension, and their next best receiver is Greg Freekin Little? I'd be for Watkins. Not overly thrilled with any of the QB's or defensive players that are available at that pick
