Or the 2009 Saints, who had 7 guys with 35+ catches. Chris Henry only had that many receptions once in his career, by the way.

The Browns have an alleged-criminal owner and kicked Rob Chudzinski aside after one year on the job, also letting outstanding coordinators Ray Horton and Norv Turner leave without a fight. There is no franchise quarterback or running back on the roster. It's not surprising coaches around the league aren't lining up to succeed Chudzinski.

[HR][/HR]- In speaking with a cgood friend to theOBR and experienced, successful AFC personnel man -- the Browns HC search is sketchy and only Jimmy Haslam can rectify the situation.

Word around the league is the Browns have been indecisive in the message they are sending to candidates, but Haslam has gotten significantly louder and clearer to what HE wants in a candidate, which could spell trouble coming in the Cleveland front office.

When asking our OBR friend about the candidates available, theOBR was told, "If you want an offensive coach you go with Gase and take a few lumps as he gets his feet wet, but the young man is a great communicator, has a solid background and is dynamic. Don't worry about his age, he will be a good one if given the proper support."

"If you want a defensive minded coach you go with (Dan) Quinn, another high-energy, high-demand type coach that believes in responsibility and chaos in scheme.

And if you were running the Browns search, is there a candidate you'd have no interest in?

- Ken Whisenhut's interview with the Browns is said to have been a solid discussion about the organization and Whisenhut's experience and what he could provide. The Browns have not offered the HC position to Whisenhut unofficially.

- The perception that the Browns FO and organization in general is cast in a negative light across the league. While true, the Browns haven't had the problem discussing their situation with those across the league and candidate types as many in the media are attempting to portrait.

- The Browns could have a HC in-tow if they were 100% sold on any candidate. Despite the skepticism of candidates and the perception of the organization, the Browns job has appeal especially for a candidate seriously wanting to become a HC.

- Being said, the negativity has caused candidates to be skeptical of the Browns organization. In the interview process, I am told candidates have been pretty indifferent to not warming to Banner, whereas Haslam has been enlightening and wanting to know the candidates.

- A specific which appears to be rearing it's head is a disconnect between the team owner and Banner during the interview process. I am told Banner has a specific agenda and message in a HC candidate and what the job is, whereas Haslam has a much more open approach to the responsibilities and authority a HC could receive. This itself tells me Haslam has wavered in his support or total belief in Banner and his FO organization.


- Word is going around that former HC Rob Chudzinski has been blasting the Browns at every turn when discussing the organization with those around the league. I am told Chud has not gone on the record to discuss the Browns organization - but has spoken to people in the game about his situation.

Also, I like the sound of Dan Quinn MUCH better than Gase.

Banner is the reason no coach wants to come here.
