First off want to say congrats to all the Central district state qualifiers and state placers. Central district had two champs and 5 finalists. One of the best performances by the whole district in the past few years. Lot of underclassmen that were very impressive.


Little preview for next year(I know this year isn't over, but interesting to look at young teams):
Marysville-Don't see them being pushed off the top of the podium. Losing some big points in Forrider, Boyd and Miller but still have a stable of studs.

Hilliard Davidson-Returns 4 of their 8 dist. qualifiers. Lose Wilson and Gusan. Smith comes back and potential for a very high state placing and maybe even a state championship is in the cards after his performance this year. Maybe a down year, but can never doubt Dom Disabato.

West. North-Returns 7 of 11 dist. qualifiers. Very young team and look out for them next year with all 4 state qualifiers returning. Could they push Marysville for a title?

Pick. Central- Returns 10 of 12 district qualifiers but lose Sunkle and Bondurant. Yarger got 6th and looked tough towards the end of the year. Still a very tough dual team and could potentially win their region again. Could Allen get back on top of the Darby board with this team next year?

Lancaster and Gahanna lose their big points and don't see them finishing as high next year. Darby loses 5 of 9 d.q.'s and might be a rebuilding year. Mt. Vernon has some young guns and could finish just as high or higher. Deleware Hayes and Olen. Liberty should be interesting to watch in the next couple of years.

Lightweights-A lot of these kids are young and very impressive. Laney and Furnas were a bit surprises to me. Disabato got on that podium and only see him getting better. Like to see Rahmani in a year where he's completely healthy. Brusco, DH, has a bright future ahead of him.

Middleweights-Not as strong as the lighter weights, but still some bright spots. Hinkle, MV, has a bright future. Yarger and Deluse should both be high state placers next year, barring unseen injuries.

Heavyweights-A lot of seniors, but should make room for some younger guys to make noise. Hall,Olen., looked tough this postseason and is only a sophomore. Pfarr, Kamba, and Lybarger should all be interesting to watch next year.

can't say i disagree with any of that, pinem! Pick Central will be TOUGH next year! What are your thoughts on Pick North and Hilliard Bradley?

HD District had 23 State placers, 12 of whom were in the 1st 4 weight classes (3 each in 106, 113, 120, 126). Of those, I think 9 return, and that doesn't include Wimer (or Nace). Of course they will grow, but I'd think most will be 113 - 132 ... will (again) be very challenging for the lightweights to qualify in 2014!

pinem, I like what you've put here. Seems to be accurate. To continue off this I wanted to rank what I think are the top 10 freshmen in central ohio. Showing who might be the future studs (or already are) and give an idea who will be scoring high points for theirs teams in the next three years. Darby as a district is very lightweight loaded so this is where most of these freshmen are, but there are a few upperweights that fit into the top ten as well. Here's my top ten. Feel free to express your own thoughts and opinions...

1. Greg Brusco (Delaware Hayes)- Had a great state tourney finishing 4th. Flew under the radar quite a bit this season, but ended on quite an exclamation mark. He has a bright future ahead of him and could be the next big thing in central ohio.

2. Lane Hinkle (Mt. Vernon)- This kid is a dynamo! Extremely athletic and just go go goes the whole match. Had some quality wins during the season and even had a pin at state. Very impressive for anyone to do and even more impressive as a freshmen. Expect to see this kid high on the podium in the next three years.

3. Jackson Lakso (Central Crossing)- He took 6th at districts this year in an extremely tough weight class at 106. Nearly pulled off the win in his go to match against Gutierrez. Depending on how the weights fall next year I could definitely see him qualifying and with the rep of our lightweights right now, could even see him placing.

4. James Wimer (Central Crossing)- A kid who in another tough weight class, 113 (3 state placers out of darby) made some noise. He went 2-2 at districts with his last match being against SQ Dooley in a match that could have went either way.

5. Chris Crumb (Olentangy)- One of the most athletic freshmen I have ever seen. This kid already has a man body! He was a state alternate losing in a very exciting go to match. Only thing to seem to hold him back was his endurance. No doubt his coaches will improve him on that and will be in contention for a district championship next year.

6. Joeseph Terry (Pickerington Central)- Was in what had to be the toughest weight in central Ohio, 120. I knew he was a tough kid, but not expect him to be in a go to match. Pinned Ackley to get there, who was a tough wrestler. Terry finished 6th at districts. Hopefully these lightweights spread out a little and we will see him at state next year.

7. Chris Martinez (Delaware Hayes)- Very impressive freshmen at a "man's weight". Came into districts with 31 wins. Impressive for a freshmen at that weight, on a Hayes schedule that is not the easiest. Will expect him to make some noise the next few years.

8. Brandon Goldsmith (Westerville North)- Unfortunately he took 5th at sectionals in a stacked weight. His losses were to Anthony Alexander and Tanner Miller. So he drew the short end of the stick. He had an impressive year though and should be one of the top middleweight wrestlers next year.

9. Ethan Leapley (Central Crossing)- Central Crossing had a tough schedule this year and he came out of it with a winning record in a tough weight. He obviously got better throughout the season because he had a decent district tournament going 2-2. Had an exciting match with Messerall and almost put himself in position to go to state.

10. Raezel Garrett (Delaware Hayes)- Had a decent amount of wins coming into districts. Had kind of a spotty season, but caught some attention at districts with his match against SQ Durieux, which turned out to be a slug fest with the two going back and forth. Expect to see him in the top four in the coming years.

Joseph Terry is going to be tough - I don't want to take anything away from the kid.
Ackley's shoulder was hurt during the Fluty match and he decided to go on because he didn't want to end his season, it was a mistake on Ackley's part and he shouldn't of continued. I look to see Terry as a competitor for the next 3 years.

It will probably come down to Wimer, Rahmani if theu kee the weight down and avoid hitting a growth spurt, Terry, Stratton, whoever comes up to 120 from the lower weights.

One you missed on top light weights is Josh Wimer I think he could make a run at a title time.

Any 8th grade studs ready to make some noise next year as Freshmen?

Bribracker, was looking at the state bracket to access some of the studs and completely forgot about him since he could not wrestle due to skin. Wimer will be a force to reckon with and will contend for a district title.

Hilliard Bradley returns 7 of their returning dq's next year. They have a lot of tough kids and are solid throughout they're lineup. I'm not sure they have the studs to score big points to get into that top 5 at Darby next year.

Pick. North returns 6 of they're dq's next year along with one of the Notestine brothers that were out at the end of the year due to an injury I believe. Similar situation as Bradley in that they don't have a lot of fire power to get big points out of. Rollo, Hwy, should be interesting to watch next year with Akutsu and Gusan both graduating.

Dom Demas, soon-to-be of Coffman will make some noise at 138 to 145. He'll be a multi-state guy for sure. Sad for Scioto that they are losing another (McHigh to Liberty this year and Demas to Coffman next year). Those two could have brought back the days of Languis & Gordon to Hard Road, but doesn't look like it is going to happen. A real shame.

Watch out for CC next year! A lot of freshman that got valuable experience this season along with Josh could spell trouble for the "favorites"!!

That should make the OCC Central one of the toughest wrestling leagues around. Marysville, Liberty, and Davidson will pretty much always be tough. UA is improving. Coffman was extremely young this year and will only get better in the years to come under Van Gundy. Toss a tough CC in there and that is some strong talent. TW likely won't be able to stay at the level they were at this year given the senior talent they'll be losing, but they'll generally have at least a handful of solid wrestlers. Those should be some great duals, tri's, and quads next year.

Dusty, you seem to have a finger on Scioto. Why is it they are losing kids? Between kids quitting and transfering Scioto seems to be taking a hit. Being a former coach that spent time in trying to build that program up and leaving it with a stable of kids and a Little Irish program that was flurishing along with a MS program that was on a tear it seems to me that things are going backwards????

I agree really like this team it's young and has talent with more on the way plus a top notch coach that kids want to wrestle for this group will turn some heads.

As you can see by this statement, Ohio Chatter seems to think Central District means D I. The red-headed stepchild of the Central District DIII had 3 champs and 1 runner up. Amanda Clearcreek returns all but two wrestlers (Dilley and Tipton). Naturally, no one will possibly consider them one of the top teams, because of the two extra II's next do their division number.

By they way, there is a 90% chance Bloom Carroll will be D II next year. What will the Central District D II look like? I know the Heath district was one of the worst performers over the weekend. Philo was near the middle. Will D II be a whole lot different than D III at the district level? I know at the state level it is much deeper.

Delaware Hayes is gonna be tough for years to come. I've heard from a pretty reliable source they have a very solid junior high team that has some studs and some good coaching. Once you get the junior high going, the high school talent will start to show. example:Marysville.

A couple freshman missing from the list (because they aren't D I)
Cody Howard, Bloom Carroll - Goes toe-to-toe with Chris Crumb. He was winning until a late takedown and overtime takedown at Olentangy Orange. He too was a state alternate. His "go to" match was against the eventual 5th place wrestler.
Jordan Leasure, Amanda Clearcreek - He had a helluva good freshman season (42 wins)

Delaware is set up for a pretty good run. The last three years the middle school team has been very successful. They will return all eight district qualifiers from this season 5 of which won at least 2 matches at Darby. They will also have Wooten back in the upper weights who was a middle state placer and a district qualifier as a freshman a season ago. He missed this year with a football related knee injury. There will be a couple of freshmen coming in next year to help strengthen the lightweights. They should definitely be able to make a run at the top five at Darby.

Coach Hennosy, I agree with you that I should have specified what division was being talked about on this thread. I am very unfamiliar with D-II and D-III in Central Ohio except for a school or two and thats why I stuck to D-I.

You weren't the only one.

D3 represented very well!!! The best in Cent Oh Gratz!!

I would think if the Aces want to be compared to the best in cent oh regardkess of div then they should wresrle amoungst the D1teams.
I personally took notice of them last yr beating a very strong TV team

Amanda is for sure one of the best if not the best DIII dual team in the central district, however from what I saw of their schedule, I too think they need to toughen their schedule a little and see what happens. I think Bloom Carroll probably wrestles a tougher schedule that Amanda does.

I would love to see how they would fair in a tournament with mostly OCC schools...I think they would compete for sure. I know they were at the New Albany Tournament that had several OCC schools and did finish 3rd in the Dual format part of the tourney, they lost to Pick Central, but not sure by how much.

They were also scheduled to wrestle once again in the St Charles invitational, but the state duals caused a conflict...This year Lancaster was in that tourney, so they could have atleast seen how they could have faired against their DI brother 8 miles to the east. Also, in a dual format, they possibly could have beaten the Gales this year, I think from top to bottom, it would have been a good battle, although I still think Lancaster comes out on top...Maybe I'm just being a homer though... Sorry.

Agree.....the Aces program has progressed where maybe it's time to take that step to upgrade the schedule. Sure, they will hit some bumps along the way. But in the long run, the results will be positive. Just look at the model Marysville has shown us....
