It's a fluke play in a sense, but you also see the guy waiving for a fair catch from 20 yards away. Go completely AWAY from the ball. Instead, he finds himself 3 yards in-front of the returner in the center of the field.

Agreed. Definitely not on the guy it touched... Nothing he can do to change that

LOL...that guy is blocking, not watching what the punt returner is doing. It's up to Welker, and he was too late on the call. Also, if you call a fair catch, you have to go catch it.

I do agree, he should fair catch, but when you're fielding a punt inside the 15 yard line, it's either going to be a FC or he's letting it go.

The guys who block the entire way, even after it hits the ground, are NOT that alert on the field.

What??

The ONLY guy who knows where the ball is, is Welker. He was trying to fucking catch the thing until about 2 seconds before it hit the ground. Horrible, horrible play by him. But it was a horrible game overall for him. I think he was still somewhat concussed. He looked retarded on a lot of plays tonight.

This game will decide the #1 seed when both teams finish with the same record.

So is it common practice when the returner signals for a fair catch that he also indicates it verbally to his own players. If so, are the players to go to the ball to be there to recover if he muffs it? Or go away from the ball to avoid getting hit with it if the returner at the last 2nd decides to let it drop?

He has to indicate it verbally, but if you do, you have to go catch it. You can't call a fair catch and stand 10 yards behind where the ball is going to land, because the blocker expects the ball to land where you're standing.

I still blame Fox.....I know every coach would have him back there but they were getting the ball back with little time left. Freezing temps and strong winds with a frozen leather ball....

Let it bounce and go whee it may. No one should've been blocking more than a few yards downfield and Welker should only field the easy bounced ball right to him.

Even in good weather the punt return blocking is always nearly getting hit anytime it's not a great kick. Risk not worth reward. Possession is #1

There were two times in recent memory that his failur to make a play he makes often fucked the Patriots season. A drop in two games on pretty easy passes at critical times ruined the season.

And he choked against last night.

Seems like he and Manning were made for eachother.

Just when I thought PM was going to finally get over the hump he makes a bad pass against the Ravens last year and then last night just couldnt get it done.

Are the Seahawks just a dirty organization? A lot of "substance abuse" suspensions over the last couple years. Now Browner is looking at a year ban, and Thurmond gets 4 games. Wouldn't put it passed Petey to create a culture like that.

I was thinking the same thing. Brought it up to a coworker who is a seahawks fan, and he got butt hurt.
