I define a "known commodity" as having coached his team to a Super Bowl. Notice how that applies to all 3 coaches I mentioned?

Congrats on making a completely irrelevant point?
We swapped spots with Minnesota so as far as I am concerned they are as bad as we are.

I forgot that we swapped with them so you are technically correct, but my larger point still stands that only in Cleveland does it have to take 10 years to build a winner.

Chan Gailey coached in a super bowl. Last I checked, Offensive Coordinators are coaches.

What I got out of it

Head coach will be hired before the player personnel guy.
HC job is attractive due to ownership and city being a great football town.
Want to build sustainable success
And the HC will probably be high profile

HC better be high profile..I'm sick of these fuckers we've had. Read something that Cleveland has had a coach fired/quit/resign/whatever every season for the last 5 years or so. Pathetic. Get a fucking winner here for the love of God.

Exactly. The last two hires my initial reaction was "ok, so who will we hire in 2 years."

Why is Koetter the "it" guy?

Was a failure at Arizona State and even though Atlanta is a really good team, their offense is far from spectacular

Didn't they say though that would be dependent on who the hire was?

I can see handing over player control to a high profile coach, but if it a first time guy with no previous head coaching experience (Chip Kelly is the only one I would give that power to because his system is unique) then that is asking for disaster.

If they can't lure a high profile coach here then they need a strong GM with a track record of building a winner to be picking the players.

Haslam can get a high profile coach if he wants one, all that is standing between him and making it happen is money. For what he spent on the team $6-9 Million a year for the right coach is a rounding error when you consider that if he could get a winner on the field he would make the money back in spades if a football renaissance happened in Cleveland.

Bill Cowher will be the hire.

Bill will bring in Mularkey who was just fired to be the OC.

That will fix one side of the ball. The defense has been pretty good and cowher will bring in someone who will bring it to the next level.

and the browns will be serious contenders within 2 seasons.

The new owner will steeler-ize the franchise, and they will win.

Mark that down as a guarentee

Why not?

He is a winner.

Tough coach that is needed.

A former Brown.

With a number of offensive guys out there he would bring in an offensive whiz to take care of the offense and he would be the face of the franchise.
