Maybe is was # of returning district qualifiers to break the tie or something along those lines?

They are only seeded 7th because the coaches in that region collectively voted fr them to be 7th.

In addition, tournament teams are not always the same as a dual team from a success perspective. Scoring well in a tournament doesn't mean you have the breadth and depth to do well in a dual.

I understand how the process works and was not questioning the seed -- just a sincere observation about the strength of the division they are in.

I also understand how a team does better in tournaments with a few of their kids getting multiple opportunities to log lots of bonus points with pins and what not, and I agree that watkins probably is that type of team.

Cthelites: Only the coaches who voted can access their region's voting info.

As far as sectional seeding-esque for the state duals... it's certainly an option. The OHSAA is trying it geographically this year. Or should I say, "geographically"?

One of the things I don't like is saying you are going to do it geographically, and then when the lines are drawn, saying, this isn't good based on competition level.

The sectional seeding is typically "out of whack" as well. Plus, isn't the central district one of the few that still seeds teams and doesn't just assign them?

Yes, I know, but Id like to see that. Im interested to see who exactly knows what is going on within their district.
Was reading over on crappi that some coaches didnt vote thus allowed them to gain higher seeding because for some unknown reason the votes werent averaged out.
I get that this is the first yr and there are going to be some kinks to work out but that is just a blatant lack of integrity! That should be corrected now and easily fixed by just taking the average.

Aaaaah. Gotcha.

And trust me... you don't want to know! It's bad. I had a top 10 from a coach the other day that did NOT have Mount Vernon, but, mysteriously, had two other teams from their OCC division, and had them! (Needless to say, I did not advertise their team receiving a top 10 vote.) SMH...

That is just wrong! Thats why they need to be published.
Why not anyways? If you vote a certain way then you should stand by your convictions if someone disagrees with you...unless...something stinks in Suburbia.

would it be so hard to just seed them based on existing dual records? of course that's not perfect and would still result in some silly seeding but it probably wouldn't be worse and at least would have objectivity on its side...

I like the suggestion on Yappi. Sub-region A coaches vote on Sub-region B seeds and vice versa.

- just my 2 cents

I think that could work but some of the stuff cruiser just said about coaches voting would play into that as well.

True. Im just happy they started this tournament. But my guess is OHSAA will have to revise the seeding process next year. I bet there is controversy all over the state about the current method. Im sure they will figure something out.
