In the stands this weekend I heard some impressive names that were heading to Ashland. I don't know if they are correct, but the names that were being mentioned would make this Ashland best class ever and make them a DII powerhouse within a couple years.

I heard that they had nabbed Mitch Newhouse, Max Byrd, Mike Labry, and Brent Fickel.

If they can get everybody to the right weight, It could be a very inpressive line up.

125 - Byrd
133 - Fickell
141 - Labry
149 - Newhouse
157 - Burns

Imagine how good they are after they get a year or two under their belt.

That looks to be a nice team for the next several years. I've always wanted Ashland to be the Iowa of DII and never really understood why they weren't. They're in rich recruiting country, they can offer money and they're a better destination for many a would-be DI wrestler. With all the talk of Ohio Ohio State's program being a sleeping giant (well deserved, BTW), Coach Dernlan may be at the helm of a DII powerhouse.

I liked Tom Ryan describing OSU as an elite program with the recruiting goal of keeping the best of Ohio in Ohio and then cherrypicking the other states
