*please note* this are not the official central district rankings. just done for discussion and nothing more. give me some feedback and feel free to argue but remember, purely just for enjoyment. lots of spelling errors and what not but who has time for word anymore.
My Top 5 Pre Season Teams.
1.Marysville
2.Olentangy
3.Lancaster
4.Hilliard Davidson
5.Dub. Coffman
106
1.Payton Gutierrez, Pickerington North,
2.Taleb Rahman, Marysville, Freshman
3.Andrew Torti, Olentangy, Junior
4.Xander Straughter, Reynoldsburg, Senior
5.Josh Wimer, Central Crossing, Sophomore
Division 2 state placer Gutierrez is now at Pick. North and will be the favorite here at 106. Last year he had a solid season placing 6th at the always tough Brecksville Holiday
and winning the sectional and has good variety in his leg attacks. His only hiccup came at the CIT where he fell short of placing in a tough weight class. Taleb Rahman
was a junior high state runner up last year, and pretty much majored his way to the finals. After seeing what coach Andrews did with David Sparks last year, look for Rahman
to be a top contender at this weight. Andrew Torti broke out last season with a 1st place at his home tournament with a win over Straughter, also wrestling a fantastic state
state duals tournament with a win over Conner Nemec and Pinning Chase Crabtree of graham. Straughter made it to the finals of 4 seperate tournaments, but was the bridesmaid
at each. Fortunitly for him, you dont have to win the district tournament to advance to the big show. Also watch out for Josh Wimer of Central Crossing, he is alot better than i gave him credit for going into last year.
He was really undersized, but still managed to notch some good wins under his belt including a win over Straughter and also Mullucey of Dublin Coffman.
113
1.Jacob Spearman, Lancaster, Senior
2.David Sparks, Marysville, Sophomore
3.Chris Mullucey, Dublin Coffman, Senior
4.Greg Chang, Reynoldsburg, Senior
5.Sam Valenti, Hilliard Darby, Junior
In all likelyhood I see Spearman ending up at this weight. Spearman was a guy who wasn't on my radar last year(i blame the weather forcing them to miss the Austintown Fitch tourny)
and he came out and pretty much dominated everyone from central ohio and wrestled to a respectable 6th at the schott. Hes pretty diverse on his feet which keeps opponents guessing, I think
Sparks will close the gap a bit but not pass him. I had no idea who Sparks was untill he placed 3rd at Top Gun with wins over Crabtree, Hornack(4th @ state), and Martin. The best thing about Sparks is that he is
pretty consistent which will help him at the district meet. Mullucey got his chance to shine this year at 103 and stunned alot of people when he got red hot at medina pulling off 6 straight wins including
one over Victoria(3rd @ state) from Mason. As far as his season went he pretty much did what he was suppose to do, look for similar results this year with placement potential at state. Chang had a solid year
all the way up to the point when he lost to bloss(whom he had beaten the day before) in the match to go. Prior to that he had nice wins over state placer Smith(who beat Gutierrez) and Johnathon Edwards.
Also watch out for Medina placer Valenti of Darby who absolutely lit up state placer P.J. Mueller.
120
1.Ryan Murdock, Dublin Coffman, Senior
2.Artem Timchenko, Olentangy Orange, Junior
3.Giuseppe Penzone, Olentangy Liberty, Sophomore
4.Dakota Riley, Mount Vernon, Junior
5.Davis, Hilliard Davidson, Senior
I have gone back and forth on who to put as the #1 here and my mind is now made up. Timchenko and Murdock split last season with Murdock winning at Medina and Artem winning at state. Both are also 2x
state placers. I think that Artem is the more solid wrestler, however I have to favor Murdock because he has some great big moves and has the balls to go for them(ex:his throw vs. marsico in the match to place in 10).
I feel like i may have overrated Penzone going into last season. It looked like i was right when he placed 7th at Brecksville, but looking back he didnt really beat any state level wrestlers there. He did win elgin
with a great win over Nathan Smith and then beat Chang. He destroyed Bloss in the sectional semi's, but then seemed to falter at districts. This year I think he will be a middle man still behind Murdock
and Timchenko, but will be ahead of the rest of the pack. I don't have alot to say about Dakota Riley, other than he gets better every time I watch him and is going to be tough next season. Davis
of Hilliard Davidson was a district placer, but I just didnt see a big win last season that sticks out to me. Bloss of Franklin Heights is a returning qualifier but will have to put together a great tournament
to make it out again.
126
1.Trevor Fiorucci, Olentangy, Senior
2.Logan Strope, Lancaster, Senior
3.Seth McCurdy, Delaware Hayes, Senior
4.Jake Donatelli, Hilliard Darby, Junior
5.Jake Schulze, Dublin Coffman, Senior
Fiorucci will be the only other wreslter next to Delande with state finals experience. A 3x state placer, last season he wrestled pretty well winning his home tournament and Hoover dropping
matches to only state finalists all year untill his loss to the very tough cash at state. Being battle tested vet and not being afraid to mix it up ill give him the #1 spot here. I watched Logan Strope
at Fargo and boy he looked great. Does a great job at using his length and extremely talented. He was undefeated going into districts but was tested well. He does have a win over Fiorucci in the
past but due to how the last two seasons finished out I haveto put Fiorucci at the top. He may go 132 but time will tell.McCurdy has been a name thrown around the last two years, but hasnt quite made the jump yet. Last year he had a solid year placing high at most tournaments, but took some beating when wrestling
state level opponents. This year I think hes ready. Jake Donatelli has looked good this offseason, so ill give him his props.
132
1.Jake Ryan, Olentangy Liberty, Junior
2.Drew McDougle, Gahanna Lincoln, Junior
3.Joe Boswell, Canal Winchester, Senior
4.Cole Nace, Teays Valley, Senior
5.Ryan Lucas, Olentangy, Senior
Jake Ryan had a pretty good freshman year, then this year came out and looked good. A bad draw hurt him at brecksville and then he got hurt somepoint, maybe at elgin. He defaulted 3 times
between sectionals and districts so I gotta believe it was hurting him pretty bad. Regardless he beat McDougle to go and lost a close one to Baran at state. I think this year he is even more improved
and is your #1 here. McDougle, who qualified as a freshman had a pretty good year winning north and elgin along with placing at brecksville. Had some good wins over Hutchins and Caroll. He did
take a loss from Nace and Ryan so hes not unbeatable, but is still one of the top dogs at this weight. Boswell was a qualifier in 09, and then moved to europe if im correct? He came back this year
and placed at everything but wasnt really spectacular. He turned it out come post season and won sectionals and districts with only one close match which was his upset over Caserta(5th). Nace is
not a world beater persay but he is very consistent. I think he was qualifier material last year but ran into D'Urso and Ryan at districts. This year I think he is too experienced and confident to not make
it out.
138
1.Noah Forrider, Marysville, Junior
2.Kasee McDougle, Gahanna Lincoln, Junior
3.Dalton Tullius, Canal Winchester, Senior
4.Austin Johnston, Hilliard Bradley, Senior
5.Hannibal Tate, Hilliard Davidson, Sophomore
Forrider is a stud and owns this weight. I'll never forget watching him place at state as a freshman. Last season he placed at both brecksville and top gun twice beating the younger dailey. How good
is he? Both McDougle and Ryan forfeited to him rather than take their chances. Kasee McDougle hasnt made an awesome post season run yet, but the results are there. He won fairmont and pick north
along with a strong second at elgin where he beat the tough Carl Moody. I first discovered Tullius after he wrestled tough at the elgin tournament beating 4 brakeman ranked wrestlers before taking
second to Drew McDougle. Look for him to make an impact. Johnston, a GMVWA placer...was 2-2 at columbus east last season but had a big win over fosco in the sectional finals. This year he should
be improved enough to qualify. If Tate wants to start he may have to cut here.
145
1.Travis Luft, Teays Valley, Senior
2.Anthony Fosco, Olentangy, Senior
3.Lee Wilson, Hilliard Davidson, Junior
4.Jake Zoller, Hilliard Bradley, Senior
5.Tyler McCourt, Dublin Coffman, Senior
Luft has progressed well, he owned everyone in the district last year and would have been champ had it not been for the dayton boys who will not be back. He won both olentangy and pick north
and placed a solid 3rd at brecksville. Fosco of Olentangy caught fire at the East district tournament. I don't believe he had a match go the distance. He made the state semis in a huge upset over
Faust of Lexington. He is extremely funky and could give fits to anyone at this weight. He could be at 138 but looked big when i last saw him. Lee Wilson is an enigma as far as what he will do at the district tournament this year.
He has been hurt district time the last two years but has wins over Murdock, Timchenko, and Josh Hall. He is also a 2x brecksville placer whos athletic style I could see giving Luft trouble. Zoller suprised me last year qualifying after having won only
one match at the GMVWA. What I didnt notice was both his losses were to state qualifiers. He is also pretty funky and a go between him and Fosco could be fun to watch. also watch out for returning Coffman State Alternate McCourt.
