Ball State (1-8, 1-4 MAC) had been relatively bad until recently, but picked up their first win of the season against Eastern Michigan and played Ohio well.
Northern Illinois (6-3, 4-1 MAC) dominated Eastern Michigan 50-6 last week and is still in a fight for the MAC West title with a big game against Central Michigan looming at the end of the schedule.
