Monday, October 31st through Thursday, November 3rd, 4 to 7pm @ MS North. And I'd be disappointed if you didn't make it up.

Current clinicians: One Ohio-RTC athlete, a 2x AA for tOSU (and is currently the coach of an area high school team that won the DI district tournament last year), and quite possibly a certain 4x sectional qualifier from the area. Not sold on looking for another clinician, but am not opposed to it either.

All culminating with Saturday, November 5th pre-season tournament!!!

The season is just around the corner! Can't wait!!!

November 20th - VaTech vs tOSU
December 11th - tOSU @ KSU

Those are two I'm planning to attend, and yes, even travel to. Hope to see you sometime soon.

It's tough. But we pull our resources together, make some deals and finagle a few perks that cannot be resisted! This year's "package" included the chance to see an Ohio-RTC athlete (in compliance with the restraining order, of course), free front-row parking, the opportunity to learn from one of the better coaches in Central Ohio, and, what turned out to be the nail in the coffin, the free shirt.

It took some work, but when it was all said and done, the free front-row parking and free shirt proved to be more than he could handle. Jumped on it like a dog to a cat. "We need more daaaaawgs. We don't need no cats!"

bitter: that is EXACTLY what I was thinking. As a matter of fact, I thought about it more this morning. If we met up at QS&L at 10am, we could make it up there with time to mingle! (Maybe 9:30am.) Tickets are to go on sale around October 15th. Gonna be a good one!

With your vast network of coaches and wrestlers, I can't imagine you'd have a hard time putting together a wagon train it up there. Is that Ironman weekend? If so, a lot of coaches will be in their opening wekend tourney. That might be a tough sell to leave on Sunday after being gone all day Saturday. I bet if I start planting the seed now, I could swing it though.

I spoke with a certain flyer of knights last night... That was his concern. Some coaches hit up the week before for opening week, others wait until the second week. Still, it all takes a toll. However, as you stated, if we are going to do this, we need to look to the future, and take care of our business now. Flowers, card, gifts, an invite for a girls night out... all these things must be done now!

It is worth noting that these things should be done. Period. With no ulterior motives. So, we shall add on to the above list of things that we should already be doing! Dishes, laundry, cleaning the garage, yard work, house maintenance... Let's get busy, men!

65 to present now complete. What a great ride.

Doing some research on education, theories of, implementation of practice... all great stuff. After reading about 5 to 7 names and philosophies, I'm not sold that kids get to construct meanings of what a certain set of information means. I tend to agree with Hirsch that meaning is different than significance..Just saying.

Constructivist teaching really does work. It just changes your questioning style to asking kids about similarities and differences and getting them to THINK about what they are doing/seeing/reading/calculating. All week we have been changing decimals to percents and comparing that to what we already know about money (which tends to be their best piece of "prior knowledge" about decimals) and looking for a deeper understanding of percents (kind of like thinking about pennies on the dollar, but a little bit different). As the teacher, you are constantly looking for misconceptions. I use more of a constructivist approach, the other math teacher uses a more traditional direct instruction approach. Both groups of kids can do the math at this point, but I feel like mine have a better understanding of what they are doing and are better able to explain why they are doing it. They are more able to decide if their answers make sense. And they can do more of the math without the calculator.

Even in wrestling, the constructivist kid takes what he watches other people do, what his coaches tell him and show him to do, what he experiences on the mat -- what works and what doesn't -- and learns what he needs to do in many situations. He watches his own videos to see where he thinks his mistakes were and works on fixing those mistakes. He may borrow things he has seen in other sports. Slightly different kind of learning from the wrestler who learns from his coach and drills and drills and drills until he gets it perfect, then can use it in a match very effectively. I don't think that one method is better than the other, but I do believe that different kids are suited to different methods.
