RESPONSIBLITIES: Individual will assist the head coach in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, academic monitoring, practice and meet preparation and coaching, coordination of special events, and any other duties as assigned.
NCCC is a Division I Junior College and member of the NJCAA. This is an excellent opportunity to break into and learn all aspects of the college wrestling profession.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required. Previous coaching and/or collegiate wrestling experience preferred.

Well... I guess this might be just a little about eligibility... but not really. These are all of the Ohio kids who have signed national letters of intent with Junior Colleges all over the country (but not in Ohio). Junior colleges can offer 16 scholarships each year for wrestling. Many of these are community colleges (or small, local state supported schools) which means that their tuition and fees are already reasonable. Many of these community colleges offer housing -- either in dorms on campus (Neosho) or in "apartments" just of campus (Rend Lake) -- also at reasonable rates. Coaches, please keep these programs in mind for kids who would like to wrestle in college, but may not be able to at a D1 or d2 level and can't afford some of Ohio's D3 programs. I was a little surprised to see only 5 Ohio kids over two classes at Jr. Colleges. I was also surprised to find out that many of these programs have not signed 16 athletes.

Wide awake at 4:30 in the morning. Not sure why. As is the usual case though, anytime I'm awake this early, I like to - among other things - say a prayer for the troops still serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hope all is well and morale and alertness is high for them.

When I visit an airport for any reason, I like to stop by the USO, and if anyone is in there, I'll be sure to to shake their hand and tell then thank you for their service and sacrifice. More than likely, it's an older vet who is volunteering his time. Ya know... It's always nice to extend my gratitude to him or her as well.

I saw a picture of what is call the "Blue Star Moms" on a wall somewhere... INTENSE! (Blue Star Moms are a group of women who have children serving - I think in combat zones. Anywho, the picture was an airel view of a huge parking lot with the moms in the shape of USA. inside the bottom of the A was another group holding a giant flag. I bet they know this 4am feeling. All too well and constant.

Along these lines, one of my joys while driving is seeing liscense plates with a service ribbon from a particular battle. I like to get right along side them, make eye contact and salute them. If I could, I'd pull them over and tell them how proud and appreciative I am. But that might be odd. (Ha! As if what I'm doing is 't odd enough.)

While i'm rambling... If ever I see someone with a Veterans Hat (you know you've seen them: all black, kind of large, huge service ribbon across the front with it's particular theatre embroidered above it... Yeah, THAT one) if I see a vet wearing those, I lime to have the server has their check brought over. After all that vet has seen and done, it's the least I could do.

All this is kind of therapeutic.

You know what one of the real joys is for me though... Having my 7 year old walk up, unsoliticated by me, to a veteran and finding joy in extending his thanks. That'll move this parent to tears and to his knees. What a champion.

I'll close with this... I once ran the 5k in honor of Ray Mendoza (Ohio State wrestler, US Marine, and from all accounts I've ever heard, natural born leader). Upon his death in 05, his wife or teacher asked his then ten year old son to write something or draw a picture to remember his dad with. His choice, and I quote: "Become a leader; not a follower." what a legacy.

Although I like to break Cruiser's balls about nearly everything, his respect and honor for active and retired service members is always inspiring. And most should be aware that he was a service member himself, so he understands what it takes.

Groveport Madison will Once again be running it's pre-season "Be Better" Wrestling Camp. We are thinking about bucking the tradition trend of a camp t-shirt and going with shorts. Whatta ya think!? A little more expensive, but that's really not the issue. The issue is, would kids like this?

Anyone who knows me knows I have a new appreciation for compression shorts. My brother says no. I think it would be sweet!!!!

Anywho, shorts (of the traditional wrestling sort)... Yay or nay???

I like t-shirts but if wanting to step-up, get away from cotton and go synthetic. Maybe even long sleeve.

I love the dry-fit stuff. AWESOME! Plus, the design we had last year... just great. I like the idea for this year, but making it happen might be difficult. Oh well, I'll keep the chatter posted. Perhaps we'll go best 2 out of 3 takedowns! Ya know... solve it the old fashioned way.

Walmart had (has?) a sale on some sort of Dri-fit shirt, pretty good bargain. It may have been Champion brand?
Does the Champion shirt you like have a mesh underarm/sides?

Mesh sides... No it did not. But it was awesome!!! I got the idea from an Ohio State shirt. It was red, with grey stitching along the shoulder area. Had the block "O" right in the middle of the chest and simply had te word "WRESTLING" underneath. Awesome.

So in typical fashion, I did my best to match it.
