Swamp Fox,
How about this?
How about the government cleans up its house of cards that describes what it already has done to the health insurance programs that it already has, before it goes sticking its fingers into something else?
How about a government that can properly (or at least reasonably) control social security, medicare, medicaid?
How about a government that can pay Peter without robbing Paul?
How about a government that shows a little restraint?
How about a government that knows its role?
I ask these questions, does that make me wrong?
What am I asking that makes it so wrong?
How should I be described because I happen to think those questions are legit?
I'm starting to get the idea that maybe it WAS a good thing for Obama to be elected, because now people are being shaken out of their complacency.
Does that make me somebody who needs to be called names by my own party? (astroturf ring a bell?)
Why should I put my trust in the party that is publicly de-values and dismisses out of hand some of its own supporters for simply protesting/questioning what it's doing?
I've been called racist, insensitive, heartless, a liar, astroturf, redneck, and a whole host of other names by other democrats because I haven't toe'd the party line.
Does that seem "normal" to you?
Does it sound like an entity that you can believe in?
Is this the change that other democrats are believing in?
I think it's HIGH TIME that other democrats get off the party nip and demand more from who we put in office!!!
*I purposely left out the republican party for a few reasons.
- that's another animal altogether
- the democrats are able to be held accountable on their own, without holding the hand of anybody else
- there will be plenty of time later for me to be dissatisfied with the republicans, as of right now they have no power
- I think the republicans on this board need to question and hold accountable their own party also on another thread or another day.
Center,
Your questions are not wrong at all. You have every right in the world to be asking why things aren't better. Whether I believe the same things you do about the ultimate solutions to our problems is irrelevant. You have obviously found great frustration in the acts of your government and are trying to come to terms with it. My post showed my frustration with those that look for simple answers to complicated questions by using time honored tactics such as name calling to dismiss all suggestions without giving them time to work or not. You know as well as I that when massive changes are contemplated, there is always strong opposition. People are afraid of change. The problem is that in order to right the ship, many people feel that it isn't very prudent to continue policies that have been unsuccessful. The people that put Obama in the White House are expecting him to change things. They aren't on the party nip. What he is trying to do is exactly what the majority of Americans said they wanted him to do. The fact that you or I may or may not agree with those policies is also irrelevant. Saying that he and his party are violating the Constitution isn't true either....not until the Supreme Court says that he must stop because his policies are violating the Constitution. You or I saying it, is an opinion, just like the statements you made at the beginning of your post. Finally, I think it would be safe to say that historically, the Democratic party has always been more diverse and combative with each other than have the Republicans. with the recent swing to a more Conservative agenda, the Republicans have been changed by a very vocal minority of Republicans to begin to take a much more Conservative view of practically everything. If they were, in fact, the majority, John McCain and Sarah Palin would now be in the White House. I wouldn't worry too much about any massive changes being made, there is too much for the politicians to lose. Look for a continuation of inadequate health care coverage for the ones who need it most, a tax structure that continues to favor the wealthier Americans as opposed to the poor etc etc etc. it's secretly what many Americans want. They just can't say it out loud. if they did say it out loud, I would predict that people who heard them say it would be calling them all sorts of names. Names like racist, heartless, insensitive, a liar and so on and so forth. You get the picture.
