Not really surprised by this in the slightest. Stern has always been VERY quick to fine owners who take even the slightest misstep. With this obviously being out of the norm of owner's conduct (although I feel in a good way) the fine is not a shock.

The NBA teams are all equal. They have the same salary cap and the same ways to create more space for them to use to sign players. What isn't equal are the locations. Miami, LA, New York, Boston, Chicago have a lot of perks which draw players to want to play in those places. Cleveland is a shithole and nobody worth their salt wants to go there and wallow in misery. I don't know what you want Stern to do about that.

This has been planned for the longest. No way does Pat Riley strip his team like that unless he knows something... These guys ALL signed the same contracts... There were other FA's that year that signed longer deals... Melo for instance..

These 3 had it planned the entire time. We were just too damn blind to see it.

Well deserved. Gilbert was completely unprofessional after LeBron's announcement. I can understand his anger, but that is no way for an OWNER to act.

Gilbert was out of line, acted like a three year old and totally deserves a fine, to say otherwise is stupid.

im glad lebron left, cleveland fans show their true colors when they dont get their way. i cant wait until Miami plays Cleveland in Cleveland and Miami wipes the court with the cavs.

I really don't think that Stern is a bad Commissioner but I think that this fine was purely political and there will be no further action of any kind taken. Was this plan in place long ago? I think there is a preponderance of evidence that suggests there was collusion, but I don't think Stern wants to go there during his time as Commisioner.

Gilbert is set to lose something like 250 MILLION dollars because of Lebron's decision to leave...you guys try losing that much and tell me you wouldn't be a LITTLE politically incorrect.

Boo fucking hoo, he called Lebron a coward. People are so god damn sensitive these days they act like Gilbert is some criminal.

NBA is a private entity... he can fine people just like Justin can ban people for shit they say here in this private realm.

I wasn't comparing them dumbass..I was just saying there are times where your first amendment are not protected. Both of those times are instances.

The NBA is essentially a big company. As commissioner, Stern is the de facto boss of said company. Said fine, regardless of how anyone personally feels about it, is basically a boss disciplining an employee.

Hey, you're a coach! Why don't you VERY publicly start talking about how a few athletes on your team are real cuntstains and see how far freedom of speech gets you when your district's school board/superintendent find out.

On purely and business and professional standpoint....it was out of line. Cleveland fans need to put their fandom aside and look at it from an objective view. Again, that was no way for an OWNER of a pro team to act....bottom line.

Passion is one thing, acting like a whining unprofessional baby is another. He could have chosen his words better and still made his statement.

He looked like a moron, ask anyone that is not a Cleveland supporter. That statement did more damage than good.....and hes 100k down....like that really matters though.
