Seriously... Why do companies charge so much for texting? And why do companies charge YOU for when someone ELSE sends you a text? I used to be with a company called Centennial, and ALL incoming texts were free. Their motto was, if YOU'RE not sending it, you shouldn't have to pay for it. Same with all incoming calls. Well, AT&T bought them out, so now I'm with them. I like AT&T's rollover plan, but why not use it on texts as well?

Question... who has the BEST cell packages out there, where the customer is not fu*ked over so much?

I use Google voice for most of my texting.

I have no clue why they charge so much for texting. It is not a priority packet on their network so a text message only sends when there is free bandwidth. For the most part, it doesn't add any more stress to the network.

but componies know that people often text more than call thesedays. so why not make money of it

I'd like to see AT&T do rollover texts. Maybe also a family plan for texts. They give you shared minutes, why not shared texts? STOOPID!

I've got unlimited on Sprint.

Anybody ever checked how many they send a month? I've seen some ungodly numbers for some of my friend's phones....

They charge you for incoming texts because you agree to receive incoming texts. I came to the texting party pretty late, and I had friends who used to text me and I would get charged whether or not I opened the text. If you don't text and you don't want to get charged for receiving texts, then you can have texting turned off so that your phone cannot receive them.

Texting, via a study, is the MOST PROFITABLE thing going right now. Companies make a shit ton of money per text for the amount it costs them.

They charge so much for texts because they can. It costs them basically nothing because the bandwidth used is so slow but they know that people love to text.
