Auto and homeowners insurance: who do you use?

Curious who everyone uses for their homeowners and auto coverage.

We've been with AllState for a LONG time. I just did an auto quote with Liberty Mutual and with the same or better coverage we can cut that bill in half. That's even with a discount for having both policies with Allstate and just doing auto insurance with Liberty Mutual.

Is it worth sending the quote to Allstate to see if they will match it or do you just switch providers in this instance?

Anyone have experience with Liberty Mutual specifically?

My brother works for Mitchell Insurance. He can run your numbers thru multiple agencies and find the cheapest. I will say it’s usually Liberty Mutual or Erie. His wife works for Liberty Mutual as well. I’ve never had a problem with Liberty or Erie but I’ve really only made Glass claims.

Everyone I’ve recommended has saved a ton using him. If you want his information let me know.

Bundled actually does save.

I've been with GEICO, State Farm, probably All State, Progressive and actually not sure who I have currently.

For me what got complicated (or made things easier) was getting an umbrella policy.  Not everyone would offer it, and it's usually attached to a homeowner or auto policy.  Definitely recommend.

Also worth considering whether saving $200 per year is worth it if that company is 10x as likely to deny your claim when you really need it.  Our small HOA lost a $60k claim with insurance, and we're left sitting here wondering what the hell we were paying for.

Well we’d save $100/month just on auto by switching. And liberty Mutual doesn’t appear to be a fly by night operation that’s gonna deny our claims for no good reason.

I think it was Hanover that denied our HOA, and that's a blue chip firm.  It wasn't some bullshit either - we were SHOCKED.  Even more shocked to learn we basically had no defense against their determination.  Sort of like you have a car accident, and the insurance company claims no liability because your windows were foggy...prove they weren't.  I'm not joking.

Like I said, look at the whole package home/auto/umbrella.  And you should strongly consider an umbrella policy.

State Farm for both home and auto, mainly because of the huge discount we got on our home owners by having both.

I think Progressive lol…unless they have been bought out. We’ve had no issues in over 25 years….and was way cheaper than State Farm at the time.

It's one of those things worth quoting every 4-5 years.  In my experience, it works a lot like cable and other deals where you save money on an initial promo rate, and then after a few years it starts increasing (and easy to miss if you've signed up for auto debit plans for further "savings").

Cincinnati Insurance. Been with them for 20+ years now (ever since my dad put me on them when I was 15.5 and got my permit’s license).

We initially had a family friend as a rep, but have stuck with them even since he retired 15 years ago. They are great, maybe a bit pricier, but smaller operation. So I call, and have a personal rep essentially every time.

For Homeowners insurance you want to shop around every 2-3 years as they raise it each year then lower it when you join or sign up
