I guess I'm just not opposed to finding out ways that some of these foods and chemicals affect our health. If we move to use natural food coloring in our Fruit Loops, I'm not going to be mad at it. If Kennedy campaigned with Kamala and they win, that issue isn't going to be within the top 30 problems I could have issue with.
Right now the FDA gets almost half of its funding from big pharma. I'm open to somebody explaining to me how that isn't a conflict of interest.
I'm also not going to be pissed if I never again see another big pharma ad while watching the Super Bowl.
Upon thinking about it, it's actually kind of surprising that these issues haven't been brought into focus before this year.
All I'm saying is that if our country can find a way to start cutting back on the amount of morbidly obese 7yr olds, we all win.

Let me speak on the last part a bit. 27 years of having these kids in phys ed and have had a lunch duty each year as well. This year kinda got stuck with a breakfast duty.
We have a lot of healthy women classroom teachers and they insist the sugary breakfast do more harm than good. I’ve always agreed.
1. I teach in a poor district in southern ohio BUT I will say that the “hungry” kids are way overblown. It’s huge. The actual hungry kid may be under 5% at my school, might be under 3% and yes, those kids are fed extra and given foods to take home every weekend.
2. It’s a processed food and sugar fest. During breakfast a couple weeks ago it alarmed me at what they served. I checked the labels on the 3 items (because everything is in a package) and the 3 items totaled 95 grams of carbs (way more than 1/2 was sugar) and 5 grams of protein.
The average/popular breakfast is a Cinnamon Toast Crunch type cereal, chocolate milk, cinnamon Graham crackers and a grape juice. That wouldn’t fill any hungry kid up but it sure as hell will get an 8 year old all wired up. They’ll pound those grape juices. Those foods just tend to make you want more of those foods, nothing filling there. Loads of sugar.
Friday we served those 6 pack of chocolate hostess style donuts. Kids grabbing extra packs snd pounding those grape juices. The donuts were 45% of daily supply of saturated fat. They get away with this because they are “whole grain”….all these shitty choices are “whole grain”….so it’s kinda the 290 lb guy at McDonalds getting the double qtr meal….super-sized but gets a Diet Coke to save his health. I learned the “whole grain” trick from my SNAP-ed girl that co teaches nutrition with me for a month each year. She’s through OSU and I think the SNAP-ed is one of the programs Trump is cutting.
As for the obesity…the 7 year olds aren’t quite there but it’s full force by age 9, so you were close and their poor physical conditioning is coupled with the lazy desires of the day which include YouTube videos and video games. They don’t go outside anymore.

Sadder part is that I heard a statistic that, god forbid, we'd have to have another draft, a good portion of the males in the age bracket are disqualified due to obesity.

It would have to be an athlete in one of the main sports. Most non-athletes wouldn’t come close to making it. It’s beyond sad.
Not a cabinet position per se, but Trump is putting Tom Homan as the border czar. From the clips I’ve seen of him, solid choice for those of us that care about border security.

Exactly; he was great the last time around too.
Looks like Rubio for Sec of State / Lee Zeldin at EPA / and Noem for DHS.
Paulson took himself out of Treasury consideration.

Also Susie Wiles for Chief of Staff - first ever female............... so much for Mark Cuban's asinine comment.
He's putting together a very solid team. Think he learned from the last time around. Critical that he hits the ground running on day 1 as he only has about 18 months to get whatever policies he wants/needs to intact.
The cabinet isn't terrible so far.
Again, AG is huge for me as that will give a window on how much Trump wants to control DOJ.
Noem at DHS is interesting, and I feel like she may lean on the White House.
I'm not sure Trump can pick off any more House Republicans as that will impact their majority.
One random thing I am really interested in seeing how it impacts Trump and his administration is fallout from the overturn of Chevron decision with the Supreme Court..
They may really slow and kick back to Congress how these agencies will move forward.
I wonder how many will end up being felons like Donny?

However many racists, misogynists, homophobes, transphobes, Nazi's and fascists, with the bonus of all being felons, as they can find will fill leftover positions.
Last time around he listened to too many insiders and establishment types --- basically had to since he was a complete outsider. Now that that is out of the way; he can go with the right people, hopefully, right out of the gate now.
The moment that Trump tapped Rubio was the moment that you all should have known that he didn't learn a fucking thing. The gears are now turning for infighting, not following orders, tabloid leaks, war, public spats, and the hunt for a new replacement.

Now how is this draining the swamp? Rubio is a career politician who is as swamp as swamp can get.
I'm in favor of some of the names Trump's put forward for positions. But this one in particular is a reminder to me that Trump is nothing more than yet another politician.

Yeah, but he's in the Lindsey Graham class of establishment where he'll say and do establishment things whenever he can, but the minute Trump gives him the stink eye, he'll immediately do what he's told because, first and foremost, he's a coward whose greatest fear is pissing off the wrong crowd and losing his position as a result.
So, in short, he's there to be a yes man for Trump who probably knows just what will happen if he tries to go in any other direction.

Considering Rubio was one of the finalist for VP, State makes sense. Rubio has wanted out of the Senate for years.
The picks today aren't surprising and again, aren't terrible.
