Can't stand the man announcing figure skating...tone down the superlatives, dude.

But woman's big air freestyle was incredible.  Also, talk about winning the genetic lottery - the one girl (who was a US citizen, but went to China to compete for them) got a 1580 SAT and is going to Stanford...has a side gig modeling....and a gold medal.  Oh, yeah, composes her own piano pieces, too.

I haven’t watched but a little here and there. I don’t get into winter as much. But I’ll watch something like luge - or diving in the summer - and wonder how does an athlete step onto that scene in America?

Sounds like Geena Davis. Multiple Academy Awards, model, member of Mensa, almost made the US Olympic Archery team in 1999 (she only took up archery 2 years prior)...

Winter Olympics are  harder for to get into because I've never really done any of the activities.  I've run, wrestled, played basketball, swum, etc, so I can at least identify with how incredible the summer Olympic athletes are.  I don't ski, can't ice skate, never bobsledded, never snowboarded, so it's like watching cricket.  The one sport I do like watching in the winter is curling.  I wouldn't call them incredible athletes, but it's pretty cool to watch the strategy unfold.

I haven’t watched any yet, but I’ll try to catch the half pipe tonight for Shaun White’s last ride.

He doesn’t have a shot in hell though, probably won’t even medal.

I've watched some, but it was mainly on in the background. They are fine.

I was thinking there has been zero push by NBC for these games. I wonder if that is due to the fact it is 1. In China. 2. We just had an Olympics Six months ago. 3. The NFL isn't done yet so that sucks up all the oxygen. 4. NBC knows the next few Olympics are likely going to be better as they are in Paris, Italy, and LA.

Ski jumping might be the most uninteresting. All the jumps look exactly the same, and you wouldn’t know a good jump from a bad one unless they just wipe out.

I don't even know where they are being held.

Russian figure skating prodigy tested positive for a banned substance that apparently can help oxygen/stamina.  She's 15.   You're doping a 15 yr old?!?!

So apparently 16 years ago American woman's snowboard cross tried showing off on a grab off the last jump, fell and not only lost the gold but any medal.  Then fell in her last two Olympics.  She got gold in individual.

Men's snowboard cross is 40 years old, and has never won any Olympic medal.  Was crying that this had probably been his last chance.  Then snow conditions prompted the US coach to pair him with the above in the mixed snowcross.  He won his half by a sliver, and then watched as his teammate came from behind to win the gold.  It was absolutely awesome.

side note:  she did the grab, again, off the last jump.  Can you imagine if she had wiped and cost her teammate a medal?

Also enjoyed watching Shaun White in what might be his last competition ever.

It’s Russia.

I know.  And athletes competing as ROC (Russian Olympic Committee) because Russia, the country, is banned after getting caught doping last winter games.

Doesn't seem like much of a penalty when your athletes still get to go compete.  Maybe they'll be outright banned next go.

And I'll bet the guy that sent the positive test result to the IOC has already been mysteriously poisoned.

Yes, nice to see a few extra pounds on an older man pay dividends coming downhill!

To the Olympics credit, I watch women’s hockey once every four years, when they’re in the gold medal match.
