Who has beaten a team for the title with great centers? The position itself fell by the wayside from 1990 on....other than mostly what you mentioned

Well the Rockets beat Shaq and Ewing.

The 99 Spurs beat Ewing who was washed up by that point. The 2004 Pistons beat the Lakers Shaq.

Speaking of big men, i thought it was classic when they spoke to a few Centers after he was drafted they stated how you "cannot win in the NBA without a dominant big man, he will not succeed because he is not a big man, etc etc etc"

That was largely true though. Jordan himself said it. In order to get to the top level, he had to put on weight and bulk up. He had to do that in order to get past the Pistons and not get the shit beat out of him.

Post Jordan, not a lot of true C.

  • Pistons over Shaq/Lakers
  • Celtics over Pau/Lakers
  • Lakers over Howard/Magic

You asked what teams have beaten another in the finals without the best C. I went with example of that, only counting series that actually featured a true C.

The rule changes have basically taken away the big physical guys. You used to be allowed to play physical and foul hard. You get thrown out and suspended if you play that way today. For example, look at Golden State. If they played 30 years, they would have a good regular season, then get beaten up in the playoffs.

The Pistons and the Knicks from the early 90's would crush every team in the NBA today.  They were rough.

Maybe...but then again those teams rarely shot threes. The Warriors would be able to space better to be able to negate the physical play and shoot way more threes. I'm not sure those physical teams would be able to run with the Warriors or other run and gun teams today.

For example, for the 1992-1993 season, Dan Majerle and Reggie Miller led the NBA with 167 3 pointers. Last year, James Harden had 378 and Steph had 354 made 3 pointers.

Steph is the best shooter that I have ever seen, but he is also playing in an era where you can't handcheck or rough him up. They have basically taken defense out of the game. I think comparing stats under different sets of rules is comparing apples to oranges.

Steph is in the conversation of best shooter ever (along with Miller and Bird).  As for GSW being able to space out the Knicks....the knicks could space out anyway with a premier big man in Ewing controlling alot of space.

Ewing, Smith and a rotation of 6'8" power fowards would handle the inside against GSW well.  Starks was a hell of a on the ball defender.

One could argue that that kind of defense should have never been allowed in the game to begin with, as basketball is a finesse sport

One could also argue if you actually watch a bunch of full games, it wasnt as physical as the "highlights" show. Freedom of off ball movement was an issue, and hand-checks were legal, but it wasnt a wrestling match like people make it out to be.

Every game had at least 1 or 2 moments where there was some rough play that in todays game would be a technical at minimum.

This head hunting was in the back of every players mind.  Most knew that if you got hot you were going to get rough play.  Every team had a dirty player.

Another two good eps last night.

Anyone remember the "Republicans buy shoes too" comment? I dont, but seems like the media blew it out of proportion like they do nowadays as well.

I have no issues with his comment or not getting involved in politics. Personally, I dont like it when athletes get political and vice versa.

"I dont have a gambling problem. I can stop anytime..."

Looks like nxt week deals with his baseball career...

Jordan was good at not getting into the weeds on anything.

The security guards throwing quarters stole  the show.  Dude was blowing up on twitter.

I remember the comment. If I remember correctly, many in black community hoped that Jordan would use his platform as an elite athlete to promote racial change like Ali, Bill Russell, Jim Brown, etc. had done. Jordan refused to go down that path. He just wanted to be the world's greatest basketball player.

I can’t stand basketball.

With that being said, I REALLY like this documentary.

I haven't had the chance to watch episode 6 yet, but I wanted to comment that the 1998 East All Star Team was WEAK AF.
