The big 4-0

As I quickly approach 40 (next week) I'm curious to know how those of you that have already hit that age celebrated.

Anyone do anything big? Just another day?

My wife and I are both off for the big day, but it looks like rain/storms in the high 60s. The current plan is to go record shopping and spend at least $40 at each record store. If the rain clears I'm sure there will be some patio day drinking and most certainly a cigar.

We're talking with her parents about going to Pinehurst in the spring for a few rounds of golf as my big 40th celebration.

I also plan to spend 40 nights in my hammock this year, which is about 30 days more than a normal year.

My wife took me to a Reds game and when we got there to our seats my whole family and even my 87 year old grandma were there. It was pretty cool actually.

It was 30 years ago, so I don’t remember.

I went to Columbus to celebrate with my parents and siblings.  My wife got me a cake that had the log of all my schools and companies I'd worked for.  My parents gave me 4 games worth of Browns tickets.  Finally, the lady who used to own Rotolo's Pizza in Grandview made me 40 of her homemade ravioli as a special order for my parents (Rotolo's used to offer them on their menu, but took them off when Mrs. Rotolo retired).  Those were f-ing awesome.

Happy Birthday to you.  Time to grow up.  Well, sort of.  I'm now in my early 50s and haven't grown up yet, so I can't talk.

Oh…and at age 40 basically something new goes wrong with your body every single day.

Enjoy

Yeah, no shit. My left elbow hurts for no apparent reason. I have no idea when I hurt it but it can get pretty painful just doing ordinary things.

I’m around 3000 days into my 40’s so the new stuff is impressive

This.  But it really accelerates after 45.

Think mine was dinner and a movie with the wife.  No cool gifts or a "Lordy, you're 40!" theme that I recall.  Just a number.  But I did start muttering at the neighborhood kids who drifted off the sidewalk when walking by.

Mine will be in the summer (June) so will likely try and convince my wife to rent a party bus from Chicago to Cleveland for a 3 day mini vacation, and do Tribe games (and maybe Cavs Finals game...?)

I’m still several years away from 40 but I think this is what you should do.

Plus 40 is only a few years away from needing the little blue pill.
