Alright I’ll pony up and tell mine. Supposed to be on my honeymoon now (we delayed going for a few months) in Sweden.
Get to airport with a couple of hours before our fly, go to get our tickets. The attendant informed me that there is a problem with our passports. The issue? My passport expires in late October. We come back in July. Apparently Sweden requires your passport be valid for 6 months after your stay (January in this case). I’ve never heard of this. Got to spend yesterday (and now today) at the passport agency in the fbi building trying to get an emergency passport renewal.
Im lucky and live near one. Most ppl do not and would be fucked. All in all, assuming I can get on my flight that I scheduled for tonight, this ordeal will cost me close to $3,500 extra dollars.
Airlines basically told me to go post on JJ huddle when I asked for my money back.
That's very shitty and sorry to hear that. I heard a similar story to this for my brother's friend. Definitely be fortunate you have access to an office that can expedite passports.
Captain hindsight here, but most European countries do this. We went to Amsterdam back in February and our passports were expiring 7-8 months after our return to the states. We just went ahead and got our new passports just to not be fucked over. Are you going to lose a day of your vacation or were you able shift your schedule to keep the same amount of travel time?
